At the start of the Senior Project, I decided to train for a triathlonbecause of my background in sports. My goal for this senior project was to be able to complete atriathlon by the end of my training in about an hour and thirty minutes. As the project drew to anend, I started setting new goals for myself such as training for the Young Harris Cross-CountryTeam I will be running on next year, where I will work on an art major. Training for thistriathlon has helped me become more focused and helped me realize that I can do anything I putmy mind to.My Senior Project revolved around training for a triathlon. From August until March 4 I trainedfor this triathlon by running, biking, and swimming. Since athletes get injured while training, Idecided to research injuries that might occur to a Triathlete for my research paper. I found thatmost injures that occur are due to overuse of the muscle, and the best way to cure the injury is torest it. While training for the triathlon, I ended up getting one of the injuries that I had researchedand decided to take a week off to let it heal. In the end after many months of practice, I found atriathlon to compete in. On March 4, 2012 I competed in the Tri-jax Challenge and completed itwith a time of 1:40.15.As a personal trainer, it will be important for me to be able to notice and treat any injury thatmay occur. My research paper helped me learn the symptoms and treatment of some verycommon injuries that occur to athletes during training. I have learned that the best way to treatany injury is resting the injury, so it can heal. Through training for this triathlon, I have foundthat I do not want to become a personal trainer because I do not have the ability to sit down andwrite up workouts to follow. However, I will still run for my college’s cross-country team nextyear. The Senior Project helped me discover my strengths and weaknesses. I enjoyed training andcompeting in the triathlon, and I found this project has helped me stay focused on my future.
