  • 1. For immediate release . . . Contact: Barbara Gaughen (“gone”), Barbara@Rain.org, +1-805-968-8567HOW TO PROMOTE BOOKSThere is an Afterword toward the end of The Self-Publishing Manual. Manybooks have Forewords; some also have Afterwords. This is where an author has an opportunity to congratulate the readers and wish them luck. Dan Poynter also asks them to send a copy of the book when it is printed. Dan Poynter says “It is gratifying to know that people are purchasing my book, reading my book, doing what I tell them, following through and getting their book out -- and they send me the proof.” He receives 15 to 20 books every week. Dan Poynter has been an author and a publisher since 1969; he has written 127 books so far. He has been speaking on publishing regularly for more than 20 years.Poynter says “I know what is going through the mind of the writer, I knowwhat their challenges are, and I have developed systems to make the bookwriting, publishing, and promoting faster, easier and more fun.”Adapting proven techniques to new technology is an exciting part of his ParaPromotion Program.Dan Poynter’s Para Promotion Program is a series of book promotionalprojects the author can accomplish without leaving home. The weeklyassignments show the author what to do to reach his or her audience. Eachassignment takes five to 120 minutes to complete. The program not onlyshows the author how to promote his or her current book, it is a crashcourse in book promotion that can be applied to future books. And authorswho understand how to reach their audience tend to write books theirreaders want.Para Promotion is the brainchild of Book-Publishing Futurist Dan Poynter ofSanta Barbara. Poynter says: “The challenge is that most of us authors areintroverts. We prefer not to take part in radio, TV or autograph parties. So, Iassembled a team of PR and website design professionals to design aprocedure acceptable to (homebody) book authors.”
