  • 7. FAMOUS HOOSIER• VIRGIL IVAN GRISSOM (April 3, 1926- January 27, 1967)Better known as Gus Grissom, was one of the original NASA Project Mercury Astronauts and a United States Air Force pilot. He was also the second American to fly into space and the first NASA astronaut to fly in space twice.Grissom was killed, along with fellow astronauts Ed White and Roger Chaffee during a pre-launch test for the Apollo 1 mission at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. He was also a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Congressional Space Medal of Honor after his death.
  • 8. 3 IMPORTANT EVENTS FOR INDIANA1. 1679- French explorer Rene`-Robert Cavelier was the first European to cross into Indiana after reaching present-day South Bend at the Saint Joseph River.2. On December 11, 1816 Indiana was made into a state.3. 1949- Indiana schools had been desegregated.
