  • 1. 2D Game CharactersSonicSonic originally got into the gaming scene in 1991 onthe Sega Megadrive and was the main character forSEGA and is still just as popular now as it ever haswith its most recent release of Sonic generations, ithas also done many crossovers with its competitorMario.MarioMario Bros. Was made in 1983 but didn’t really go anywhereuntil Super Mario Bros. In 1985 and has followed the sametheme for 27 Years that Princess Toadstool has been kidnappedby the evil bowser and Mario must rescue her. Many of thecharacters in Mario have had their own games and aresuccessful because they are from a well known franchise e.g.Luigis Mansion.Pokemon TrainerAll 2D pokemon games put you in the position of a PokemonTrainer who has to stop an evil team *Usually Team Rocket;and save Pokemon. Much like the others this pattern isrepeated and it has success and still has its ownmerchandise, games and TV shows being made of it. The firstpokemon game was on 1996 on the Game Boy.http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=386610&page=255http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Mario_Bros.http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?um=1&hl=en&safe=off&sa=N&biw=673&bih=586&tbm=isch&tbnid=EcQR8lLCDdJeJM:&imgrefurl=http://pikachusparty.webs.com/GoldSilverCrystal.html&docid=mol0fHvPTW7ZVM&imgurl=http://pikachusparty.webs.com/pictures/Pokemon%252520Silver.jpg&w=275&h=275&ei=GDKaUPHQAabF0QWFnYHYBA&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=291&vpy=289&dur=1383&hovh=220&hovw=220&tx=154&ty=132&sig=103523421
  • 2. Castle CrashersCastle Crashers was released on XboxLive Arcade in 2008 with releases ontothe Playstation Network and Steam in therecent years it is a unique fantasy worldin medieval times and you rescue 4princesses and play as 4 knights (Morehave been recently added) it utilises theco-op feature to enable fun party playwith friends which most games leave out.LinkLink from the Legend of Zelda is the main Hero in thelegend of Zelda series, he is the elf who wonders aroundHyrule and has to fight the evil Ganon to save PrincessZelda. First released in 1986 on the NES (NintendoEntertainment System) it is still being made anddeveloped on the newest Nintendo consoles.YUGIOHThe player in Yu-Gi-Oh Forbidden memories is the only onewho can save Egypt from Heishin and really gives the player asense of achievent through near impossible challenges andrewarding gameplay although the game is in 2D it is no lesscapturing then any other 3D game. With a release spanning 3years 1999-2002; this game still has a following on differentwebsites and is still recognised as one of the best 2D gamesever made.http://castlecrashers.neoseeker.com/wiki/Main_Pagehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Legend_of_Zelda_(video_game)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yugioh_forbidden_memories
  • 3. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contra_(series)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teenage_Mutant_Ninja_Turtles:_Turtles_in_Timehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BattletoadsContraContra/ the character you play in Contra is oneof my favourite 2D games because it was extremely gruelling but rewardingbecause it was the first game that popularised the Konamicode.(UP,UP,DOWN,DOWN,LEFT,RIGHT,LEFT,RIGHT,B,A,START)This created something that will be remembered for a longtime amongst gamers worldwide.TMNT: Turtles In TimeThe teenage mutant ninja turtles or TMNT as they areeasily known featured in the arcade hit title; ‘TeenageMutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles In Time’. It served as asequel to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III :TheManhattan Project, this is why it was given IV in the titlewhen it was ported onto the Super NintendoEntertainment System or SNES otherwise it would haveseemed out of place.BattletoadsBattletoads was set to rival the TMNT with threeanthropomorphic toads named after skin conditions (Rash,Zitz and Pimple) I personally preferred the GameboyVersion because of its extreme difficulty and its pureentertainment value compared to other Gameboy gameswhich stuck to the simplicity that the Gameboy wasnaturally perceived as being but this proved otherwise.
