research on Animals, History, and the Physical features of Death
Valley.
There are many different kinds of life in Death Valley but the
most is birds there is 346 species of birds there including the
Roadrunner. There is about 51 species of mammals. There is also
about 5 species of amphibians. There is more fish in Death Valley
then there are amphibians by 4. There is 36 species’ of reptiles. In
plant life there is about 52 species and 11 of them are cacti. Death
Valley has a huge spring of wild flowers.
The valley was found in 1849 during the gold rush. Borax
was discovered in 1873 but people did not start development until
1880. Death Valley became a biosphere reserve in 1984. Walter
Scott witnessed the creation of Death Valley national monument
because of president Hover on February 11, 1933. The year Death
Valley became a national park was 1994.
Death Valley is the hottest place in North America. The
hottest shade temperature recorded was 134 degrees. Year round
the temperature can reach over 120 degrees. The lowest
temperature recorded was 15 degrees. In 2001 15 days in a row
were recorded at 100. The annual rainfall is 1.5 inches. In 1929 no
rain fall was recorded.
Death Valley is approximately 3,367,638 acres. Death
Valley is part of the Great Basin. The lowest point is -282 feet. The
highest point is 11,049 feet. It is 550 square miles below sea level.
