‘Unlimited Education’ Workshops This link is to a video of a Teen Murder in Chicago, after school: www.videofantastica.com/view_video/76035We conducted a Workshop with 15 children, between ages 13 and 17. All had disciplinary problems, some were violent and a few had been incarcerated, already.Each Teen was assigned a different person to empathize with, to include the Murderer and his Victim, the Parents and Family Members of each, other Teens and Elderly Witness and Younger Child Witness, a Pregnant Girlfriend, a Business Owner and a Home Owner, etc. Each Teen was asked to express every emotion they would feel in that situation, before, during and after this incident; in detail and with passion. We had a group discussion concerning each emotion.We, then, discussed the Financial Repercussions on the families of the Murderer and the Victim (Attorneys, Medical, Funerals, etc.), as well as on Business Owners and Home Owners. (Property Values, Business Expansions and Relocations, ability to Refinance, etc.)A Role Model/Mentor who had a Son killed visited and shared her perspective, answered questions and interacted with the Teens.After the Workshop, Teens were asked to write their opinions of the Workshop and drop them anonymously, in a can, as they left the room. Most all Teens couldn't resist the urge to express their opinions verbally. They all felt the Workshop had been 'Life Changing'! We received 15 positive opinions.The center and I received calls from most every Parent, thanking us and praising this workshop. From my understanding, most all of the kids have reformed. It has been nearly 6 months as of 12/2010.
