FAQ What is the unit of scope for the project? Are there options? Ideally the Enterprise Architecture and Roadmap should be for the enterprise. Certainly where there are CA Gen and Non Gen applications spanning core business concepts the planning scope should encompass a broader area. But equally it may be appropriate to base the scope on one application area, and manage the architecture and delivery of key core business services in relative isolation. We have already been following the CBD96/CS 3.1 guidelines and have a componentized architecture in CA Gen. What does this mean for me? Your organization already understands delivery by contract and this is a great start for SOA. You may also have existing components which again may form the basis of a high quality architecture. We have already built Web Services using CA Gen – or using CICS SOAP abilities. Where do they fit in? It’s possible these services will form part of the core business service layer. We’ll find that out in the Assessment and Planning Stage.
