The Challenge of Inliner Material

 1. 1. The challenge of inliner material What do you think of the future material
 2. 2. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions

Natural Gas Vehicles (NGV ) contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, since they make use of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)

Worldwide, there are >10,000,000 NGV’s

yearly growth of 10-20% of NGV’s and infrastructure is forecasted

in Natural Gas Vehicles The reduction of greenhouse gas emissions is key in contributing to a cleaner environment and a more sustainable living
 3. 3. now and in the future So how can we improve NGV’s even more, with respect to the impact on greenhouse gas emissions…???
 4. 4. Inliner material is key! DSM, top-ranked in sustainability , has developed the material of choice for the inliner of type IV CNG gas tanks

This inliner material, Akulon® Fuel Lock , offers great benefits :

Approved ECE R110

Temperature range -60 to 120˚C

Softening temperature: 134˚C for Fuel Lock vs. 86˚C for HDPE

No change in blowmoulding/tooling required with regard to HDPE

 5. 5. The challenge of inliner material

NOW

Low temperature performance is one of the major challenges for the liner of Type IV CNG tanks. Understanding the low temperature behavior of the material is KEY. What do YOU think is important:

IMPACT or ELONGATION or …

FUTURE

Recyclability becomes more and more important. What do YOU think is the future material for the composite wrapping?

Thermo SET vs Thermo PLASTIC

 6. 6. Are you an expert?

Are you working at a company:

Specialized in glass and/or carbon fiber composites

Producing Type IV CNG tanks

Would you like to discuss with us:

Mechanical behavior at low temperature

Future trends of thermoset versus thermoplastic composites
