    • Building Construction
    • Building construction is the process of adding structure to real property. All building construction projects include some elements in common – design, financial, estimating and legal considerations.
    • Building construction is an ancient human activity. It began with the purely functional need for a controlled environment to moderate the effects of climate. Constructed shelters were one means by which human beings were able to adapt themselves to a wide variety of climates and become a global species. Construction in History
    • Construction Today Building construction today is a significant part of industrial culture, a manifestation of its diversity and complexity and a measure of its mastery of natural forces, which can produce a widely varied built environment to serve the diverse needs of society.
    • This increasing complexity of construction projects creates the need for design professionals trained in all phases of the project's life-cycle. Building engineering is an emerging discipline that attempts to meet this new challenge. Design Professionals
    • 3D Building Printing New techniques of building construction are being researched, made possible by advances in 3D printing technology. In a form of additive building construction, similar to the additive manufacturing techniques for manufactured parts, building printing is making it possible to flexibly construct small commercial buildings and private habitations in around 20 hours, with built-in plumbing and electrical facilities, in one continuous build, using large 3D printers.
    • In the United States, the construction industry has around $850 billion in annual revenue according to statistics tracked by the Census Bureau, with an $857 billion annual rate in March 2013. As a whole, the industry employed an estimated 5.8 million as of April 2013, with a 13.2% unemployment rate. Construction Market
    • Concrete building systems Even though many concrete building systems have been around for a long time, consumers may not be aware of them, or they may have only a limited understanding of them. The building systems included concrete masonry (block) and poured in place concrete (removable forms), precast and tilt-up, insulated concrete forms (ICFs) and autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC), which is a lightweight concrete formed as blocks or panels. Construction of above grade walls for concrete homes has increased from about 3% to nearly 11.1% in 2008.
