Ferrous Ascorbate is a synthetic molecule of ascorbic acid and iron.Folic acid also known as folate, vitamin B9 and it is essential for numerous bodily functions. Iron deficiency anemia (anemia is a condition in which the body does not have enough healthy red blood cells. Red blood cells provide oxygen to body tissues). It help to prevent neural tube defects. Some people use folic acid to prevent colon cancer or cervical cancer. It is also used to prevent heart disease and stroke.

  • 2. COMPOSITIONEACH 5 ML CONTAINS :–FERROUS ASCORBATE :– 30 MGFOLIC ACID :– 550 MCGCOLOUR :– CARAMEL
  • 3. FERROUS ASCORBATE• Ferrous Ascorbate is a synthetic molecule ofascorbic acid and iron.• It is indicated in the treatment of iron deficiencyanemia.•Ascorbic acid enhances absorption of iron.
  • 4. FOLIC ACID• Folic acid also known as folate, vitamin B9 and it isessential for numerous bodily functions.• Folate has to be supplied through the diet to meet their dailyrequirements.• The human body needs folate to synthesize DNA, repairDNA, and methylate DNA as well as to act as a cofactor incertain biological reactions. It is especially important in aidingrapid cell division and growth, such as in infancy andpregnancy. Children and adults both require folic acid toproduce healthy red blood cells and prevent anemia.
  • 5. INDICATIONS•Iron deficiency anemia (anemia is a condition in which thebody does not have enough healthy red blood cells. Redblood cells provide oxygen to body tissues).• It help to prevent neural tube defects.• Some people use folic acid to prevent colon cancer orcervical cancer. It is also used to prevent heart disease andstroke.
  • 6. HOW FOLIC ACID WORK ??• The basic mechanism of action underlying folic acid is its role incellular division and DNA synthesis. Without folic acid cells do notdivide properly.• Folic acid is critical in the nervous system development of thefoetus and for healthy red blood cell production. Folate is alsorequired for the regeneration of methionine from homocysteine andplays a key role as a methyl-donor.• In the CNS folate is involved with methylation and hydroxylation, and both reactions are important in neurotransmitter synthesis andmetabolism. Folate is concentrated in the synaptic regions of CNSneurons.
  • 7. DeficiencyThis deficiency can result in many healthproblems, the most notable one beingneural tube defects in developingembryos. ( Neural tube defects are birthdefects of the brain and spinal cord).
  • 8. Spina bifida occurs when the bones of the spine (vertebrae)do not form properly around part of the baby’s spinal cord.
  • 9. WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF TAKINGFERROUS ASCORBATE FOLIC ACID?Most of the doctors would recommend every pregnant woman totake folic acid during conception stage and even before theconception stage because it causes numerous advantages for thebaby. When the pregnant woman has an adequate amount offerrous ascorbate folate in the body, it is guaranteed that the babywill achieve the complete development of the brain and spinalcolumn. There is an assurance that the baby will not have anyneural tube defects and other inborn defects like harelip and others.
  • 10. On the side of the mother, taking a ferrous ascorbate folicacid would help her to avoid having an anemia sickness duringpregnancy and in addition to that it also boosts the immune systemof the mother and the baby. This is the reason why, it is highlyrecommended that every pregnant woman should start takingferrous ascorbate folate especially during the early stages ofpregnancy and even before pregnancy.
  • 11. DOSAGEThree teaspoons in one day.ADVERSE EFFECTS•Nausea•Constipation•Dark colored stool.
  • 12. CONTRAINDICATIONS•Ferrous Ascorbate is contraindicated in patient withhypersensitivity to iron.•Iron supplementation (which circumvents this mechanism)should be avoided in patients who have active bacterialinfections.•contraindicated in patients who have shown previousintolerance to the drug.
