  • 3. From EDM to DM2E• Our starting point: EDM v53, 23.01.2012 – Latest OWL representation of the EDM – Classes, properties and descriptions• DM2E specification DM2E v0.1, 22.10.2012 – Additional classes and properties – Deletion of unneeded properties – Adjustment of property descriptions30.11.2012 DM2E Project Meeting: EDM specification for DM2E 3
  • 4. Europeana Data ModelIssue: There is not only one EDM definition...1. PDF documentation (“paper version”) – EDM Definition v5.2.3 – EDM Mapping Guidelines v1.0.1 → http://pro.europeana.eu/edm-documentation2. • 7. DM2E Specification v0.1• Goal: Creation of an EDM specification for manuscripts• Based on Deliverables 1.1 and 2.1• Extends the EDM by new classes and properties• Makes the model easier by deleting properties that are not relevant in DM2E30.11.2012 DM2E Project Meeting: EDM specification for DM2E 7
  • 8. DM2E specificationHow was the EDM extended?• Results from mapping workshops with SBB, MPIWG, UIB – Extension requirements of all providers: → https://dm2e.hu-berlin.de/redmine/projects/wp2/wiki/ EDM+_extension_requirements – Intellectual mappings for MAB 2 and TEI: → https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AnNwow7J1RwmdE00 djhTTnlaOW1iUHFjNnhtQ3hxLWc&pli=1#gid=0• Ingestion of other provider feedback (UBER)30.11.2012 DM2E Project Meeting: EDM specification for DM2E 8
  • 9. DM2E specification• Namespaces: – http://data.dm2e.eu/schemas/[edmplus]/0.1/ – http://data.dm2e.eu/data/• Missing features: – External vocabularies are still missing (except some BIBO properties) – Versioning and Events need to be modelled30.11.2012 DM2E Project Meeting: EDM specification for DM2E 9
  • 10. Connection to EDM „We expect that many providers, while submitting data to Europeana, will be interested in submitting descriptions that fit their own specific level of interest. The key to ensure interoperability at the semantic level is mappings, following common practice in the Semantic Web framework. […] Such mappings are typically achieved in RDF by asserting semantic Relationships between the specific constructs and the core ones. Those can take the form of statements using rdfs:subClassOf or rdfs:subPropertyOf.“ http://pro.europeana.eu/edm-documentation30.11.2012 DM2E Project Meeting: EDM specification for DM2E 10
