    1. 1. ‘ Adult Literacy Program ’ Our story of Change from Satya Bharti School Adhon, District Kurukshetra, Haryana. Students:- All Fifth Class Mentor Teacher : Ms. Neelam Verma.
    2. 2. Satya Bharti School Adhon is a primary school of Bharti Foundation. It was established in 2008. Geographical Location : –Village Adhon in a progressive village of our area. It is located at a distance of 12kms from District Headquarter Kurukshetra, Haryana • Cultural Background : –Major population belongs to General, OBC & SC Category - Village have strong education & cultural image in area. – Agriculture is the main source of income.     3. 3. Step 1: FEEL <ul><li>There are a lot of problems in India. But the one that troubled us the most was illiteracy of the parents. This problem create an insecurity among them. They feel ashamed when they came in PTM and give there thumb impression instead of signing there name. Even due to this problem they are not able to help there children in home work and cannot understand the new education system only rote education is education for them. And they are not comfortable with the new homework pattern i.e. research based homework. </li></ul>
    4. 4. Going out <ul><li>To further understand these problems we went out into the village and visit peoples to make a deep understanding of the problem. We also visited gram panchyat and seek there help in this issue. </li></ul><ul><li>And we try to understand what are the challenges for us. </li></ul><ul><li>And how we can resolve the problems. </li></ul>

    6. 6. What is Adult Literacy Program? <ul><li>ALP is a unique program designed by Satya Bharti School Adhon to make parents and community Literate so that they can sign there name and can help there child in homework and can understand new ways of teaching. </li></ul>

Step 2: IMAGINE <ul><li>We imagine a situation when we are free from these problems and start visualizing our goal and We discussed the program among our staff and with the community in our PTM. And we start making our action plan. We make following preparations </li></ul><ul><li>A small curriculum that fulfill our basic needs. </li></ul><ul><li>TLM Needed </li></ul><ul><li>Student Teacher Training Program. </li></ul>
    8. 8. Step 3: DO <ul><li>First of all a two teacher and four student group go into the community and identify the target people. Who are willing to learn and ready to cooperate us in this mission . </li></ul><ul><li>In the second step we brief our program to the students of 5 th class and take there opinion they are very interested and show there enthusiasm in the project. </li></ul>
    9. 9. Step 3: DO <ul><li>In the 3 rd step we prepare our curriculum and TLM with the help of student in cooperation with Mentor teacher and volunteer teacher. </li></ul><ul><li>In the 4 th step we provide training to our 5 th class students so that they can teach well in community. </li></ul>
    10. 10. Step 3: DO <ul><li>Now work start here we go to the community regularly and start student start teaching the adults. On very first day we have only 4-5 people but as the project proceeds this strength reach up to the 30 to 35. </li></ul><ul><li>Teaching methodology student teach community by group work method. </li></ul>
    11. 11. Step 3: DO <ul><li>Group of student teach a single person. </li></ul><ul><li>A group of people is taught by a single student. </li></ul><ul><li>Group work facilitation by students. </li></ul><ul><li>Great cooperation by Student-teachers and community. </li></ul>
    12. 12. Curriculum <ul><li>A small curriculum is developed by the students with the help of teacher. A 15 days program is designed so that we can cover simple word and sentence reading and writing. Signing there name and able to read simple sentences. </li></ul>
    13. 13. TLM <ul><li>Letter card, Savar- vayanjan chart, Flash card, picture card and chart are designed by the student in the facilitation of Mentor teacher Ms. Neelam Verma. </li></ul>

How we were ‘Changed’ <ul><li>We though we were going to ‘change’ others lives but we were transformed by this experience. </li></ul><ul><li>We learnt the value of collaboration, listening, sharing and caring. </li></ul><ul><li>And we learnt that there is nothing more powerful than to use one’s abilities for the good of others. </li></ul>
    15. 15. How we were ‘Changed’ <ul><li>Community is very happy as now they can sign there name. </li></ul><ul><li>Students learn the joy of giving and enjoy the pleasure of giving to others. </li></ul><ul><li>Teacher also learn that student when trained well can do wonders. </li></ul>
