61. Double Tree
Example
Ask people in your social network to share
their opinions on a critical issue through a
survey or poll.
Check out how DoubleTree is improving its
service offerings (and its fan base and
social media engagement while they're at
it) by asking its social community to
complete a short survey.
The company starts by tweeting a link to
the survey with its hashtag, #LittleThings.
It's aPromoted Tweet, which shows
DoubleTree cares enough to spend money
on getting the public's feedback.
Also notice how many retweets it has
already received as people share the
survey with their friends.
The link takes you to DoubleTree's
Facebook page, where you're asked to
Like the page to complete the survey. And
you know what? I'm just opinionated
enough to do it.
Once the survey is complete, DoubleTree
does two smart things. First, they say
"thank you" -- in really, really big letters.
Second, they show a live tweet stream of
the #LittleThings hashtag and invite you to
join the discussion back on Twitter.
86. Now What?
Review the sites that excite you most

1. Marketing Plan Premier This comprehensive iPad app is both a fill-in-the-blank tool and a mini-marketing text book.Marketing Plan Premier relies heavily on the idea that all good businesses provide a solution to a consumer problem. The initial steps involve defining that problem and how your product solves it.From there, the app helps you analyze your competitors, determine your target market and come up with a price. Finally, the app briefly runs you through options for advertising.Related: A Data-Driven Reality Check for Your Marketing BudgetOnce you fill in all the blanks, Marketing Plan Premier inserts your answers into a pre-written multi-page, executive summary. Define Survey QuestionsOnline InterfaceDistributionLinksRandomizationFlexible survey look and feel. A survey that has prominent branding for a survey tool rather than your organization can be off-putting to constituents and decrease your response rate. A package that allows you to update colors, font and header graphics can help you match a survey to your website or organizational branding.Skip logic. As you design more complex surveys, it’s often useful to let respondents skip a whole section of questions that don’t apply to them. Survey skip logic lets you define, for instance, that those who answer “no” to question 10 should skip to question 15.Piping. Piping allows you to pull answers from one part of a survey into another. For instance, if someone says in one question that they live in New York City, you can then ask them in a follow-up, “What’s the best thing about living in New York City,” filling in the name of the city from the previous question. More sophisticated packages allow you to combine skip logic and piping to customize surveys even further.Randomization. The order of a set of questions, or the set of answers to a given question, can often affect survey responses and thus the quality of your data. Features that automatically randomize the order of particular questions or answers will help avoid this issue.Website integration. While many packages create surveys in their own web page, some let you embed them into your existing website. This can be a particularly useful way to do quick, one-question surveys (called polls), or to gather opinions from web visitors in a longer survey.Data analysis. One of the primary differentiators between inexpensive packages and their more expensive counterparts is their ability to help you to analyze the data and understand the meaning behind the results. Most packages provide simple reports summarizing the answers to each question, and many will let you download them into Excel or another tool for further analysis. More advanced packages allow cross-tabulation to see the data relationships between different sets of questions, or complex statistical analysis.Overview of the options - www.idealware.org/articles/fgt_online_surveys.php
When it comes time to write your phone survey, a SurveyMonkey template – written by professional survey methodologists – can make it easy to use effective survey questions. Try these templates if you want help writing unbiased questions that will get more accurate results:Registered to Vote? Find out if your citizenry is registered to vote, and use this data to organize convenient neighborhood-based voter registration days.Demographics. Use a series of surveys to determine the demographics of the people your government represents, including long and short demographics surveys, Education Demographics, Military Service andGovernment Support surveys. Use respondents’ feedback to better understand which programs and investments will best serve them over both the short and long term.General Event Feedback. Did your organization recently host a fundraiser? Was it successful – and would attendees enjoy more events like it? Get feedback about fundraisers, or modify this survey for other events.Environmental Issues. As extreme weather regularly makes the front-page news, concern about environmental issues is top of mind for many. Survey your community to get their thoughts about environmental issues and to open a channel for collectively solving for them.Customer Satisfaction. How do your customers and clients feel about your products, services, and customer service experiences? Reach them through automated phone surveys to ask for their feedback.Website Feedback. Assess the effectiveness of your Website and discover whether visitors are finding what they’re looking for.Mobile or Cell Phone and App Use. Learn more about your target audience’s mobile phone and app use. If they use the Internet or Web applications, do they use them on mobile or cell phones? Are your audiences big smart phone users, and frequent consumers of new applications? How often do they use their phones to access their online social networks? Are they inclined to buy apps often, and if so, what kind of apps? Use this feedback to decide if your organization should develop and offer a mobile app too.If you find a template that interests you, keep a copy of it handy when you write your survey.Create surveys and polls that are fun, while providing you with useful feedback.Government and Public Administration. Survey citizens for feedback about government services and opinions on community issues and priorities, and to raise public awareness about civic forums and activities.Political Research. Run tracking polls, horse race polls, message testing surveys, and quick polls on hot-button issues for political campaigns and consulting.Conference Feedback. Provide a dial-in number, and ask attendees to call in to give their feedback after a conference session. Make participation open to all, and eliminate paper forms and manual tabulation.Education Feedback. Call parents for quick feedback on teacher performance. Use phone polls to run quizzes in class and get results in real time.Employee Engagement. Survey employees across your organization for ideas to improve services, increase engagement, and improve retention.Volunteer Organization. Run polls to mobilize volunteers, collect RSVPs for events, and to gather data from the field.
