  • 1. Astrology www.astrology.com.tr History of Astrology All astrology systems grew out of the need to fix a calendar for agriculture; the agricultural "year" itself then became punctuated by religious festivals. These festivals mark turning points of the year—the right time to start planting, or to move animals to higher or lower pastures, for instance. Europe, the Middle East, and the Indian . ..... Western astrology moved from Iraq into Egypt, then to the Greek and Roman empires. Chinese astrology started in the areas around the Yellow River. Central American astrology originated with the Maya and Toltec people and was developed further by the Aztecs; some of this permeated Native American astrology, although local myths and local observation of the sky also played a part in the Native American tradition. African astrology uses Egyptian and North African studies of animal marks on sandy or soft soils, as well as observations of the heavens. Norse and Celtic astrology are an amalgam of pagan myths and measurements of the suns movement. Ancient people believed that planetary movements signaled events such as floods, good and bad harvests, or wars with neighboring tribes, so the predictive aspects of astrology soon followed. Early astrologers believed that the position of the planets rising over the horizon or at the top of the sky at a person’s birth foretold the potential character and destiny of that person. This kind of thinking was never applied to "common" people—it was only used for royal babies and the sons of military, religious, or court leaders. The popularization of astrology in our own age came about through just this kind of royal horoscope. In 1930, a British astrologer outlined and interpreted a chart for the infant Princess Margaret for an article in a national newspaper. This article was so popular that the editor asked the astrologer if he could do something for the general public. He did—and newspaper astrology took off. The original article also sparked interest in more detailed forms of astrology.
  • 2. Divisions within Astrology There are various divisions within the subject of astrology according to the aim of drawing and interpreting a chart. Natal Astrology This branch of astrology rules the life of the individual and uses a horoscope erected for the time of birth of the subject or some other important time in his or her life. This horoscope reveals the personality, health and basic potential of the individual. This method of astrology is very popular, and there are two main approaches in natal astrology. One approach emphasizes the prediction of particular events such as marriage, career and children. But many modern astrologers have tend to ignore this approach, rather they move towards a solely psychological approach. The psychological approach is used to describe the personality of an individual and their psychological potential. Future events are predicted in a general sense only and are depicted as the consequence of the psychological behavior of the subject. Horary Astrology Answers specific questions from "Will I get that job?" to "Where are my lost keys?" Horary astrology provides more reliable and accurate predictions than other branches of astrology. Electional Astrology This form of astrology is well known throughout the world. Answering specific questions such as "Which date would be the most suitable for the wedding?" and "When should I launch my new business?" This branch of astrology determines the most auspicious time to start an enterprise, journey, marriage, business or course of study. Medical Astrology This branch of astrology is related to homeopathy and herbal medicine. Astrology can tell the best time to cut your hair (Full Moon if you want you hair to grow back thick), undergo surgery (not on a Full Moon: danger of hemorrhaging) as well as the best time to conceive. In general, each sign of the zodiac rules a part of the body. For example, when a Taurean gets often cold or the flu, he or she tends to suffer from a sore throat, but Geminis tend to suffer from lung or bronchial problems. Your zodiac sign may indicate where you have a weakness. Mundane Astrology
  • 3. Mundane Astrology is an extensive field which rules covers all the affairs of nations, countries, religion, war and revolution, the arts and science. There are three main branches in mundane astrology. • Financial Astrology: This area of astrology is a specialty practiced by few astrologers. Many businessmen consult astrologers. Even Wall Street, New York has astrologers who try to avoid publicity for the sake of their clients' reputation. • Political Astrology: Political Astrology rules political affairs and issues, politicians, groups of people and political organizations. • Geophysical Astrology: This branch of astrology examines climate, the weather, and all other natural phenomena, especially disasters such as floods, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Predictive Astrology This provides predictions for individuals, usually according to transits and progressions, New Moon, Full Moon and eclipses. Transits can last for an hour (Moon) up to 18 months (Pluto) and bring changing moods and conditions but as well as lessons to learn. Many people go through difficult lessons in their lives at the age of roughly 28-29 when they experience their first Saturn return (Saturn returns to its natal position). Many people undergo complete changes in their life at this time. If no lessons are learnt form this difficult time, they experience more difficulties at the next Saturn return at the age of roughly 56-58. Sun Sign Astrology This is the horoscope which you read in newspapers or weekly magazines. This method from medieval times can be very accurate but the astrologer needs to be very highly skilled. For example, when Mercury goes retrograde (appears to go backwards as seen form Earth) again on the 18th Jan - 8th Feb 2004 you can expect delays and problems with short journeys, communications (lost letters, misunderstandings, problems with the internet) right through until 1st March but each sign of the zodiac will experience these problems in different areas of their life and to varying degrees. Understanding Lunar Astrology
  • 4. While the Sun is indeed the origin and sustainer of life on Earth, the exposure of the Sun’s light and heat alone would not offer the stimulus to change and growth as do the tides that respond to lunar influences. Using astrological knowledge in our everyday lives will nurture and support us, just add the lunar cycle supports the growth of all living things on Earth. From the very beginning of life, Earth’s two companions in the sky-the Sun and the Moon-established two separate rhythms that continue to this day: the Sun with its pattern of heat and light, and the setting of the seasons; the Moon raising and lowering the water in and with which life is nourished. The Moon cycles and their correlations with everyday life are the foundation of the Lunar Astrology. • 6. Mars ruled Aries is cardinal fire. Any planet in this sign becomes a bullet—red-hot, impulsive, and ready to go. Aries planets are not known for their patience. In fact, they hare waiting more than anything. There are no obstacles in the mind of an Aries planet. There's only where they are and where they want to be, and the shortest distance between those two points is a straight line. Aries planets prefer cutting to the chase over any other tactic. They boldly charge in where few would dare to go. They are brave, courageous, impetuous, and direct. Your Aries planet will always be exactly what it seems to be. This is the first sign, so Aries planets are often very good at initiating projects or starting things up. They aren't as eager to finish, though. That's more of a fixed quality, so projects often are left undone. Aries planets need a physical outlet for their considerable Mars-powered energy— otherwise their need for action can turn to stress. Exercise, hard work, and competition are excellent outlets for the active energy of Aries and Mars. Leo: July 23 - August 23 Planet: Sun Element: Fire Quality: Fixed Sun ruled Leo rules over pride and the ego. Leo planets want to shine, and you can use them to perform if you own them. In fact, you should find a stage, take the center spot, and get used to it, because, like it or not, your Leo planets will attract attention even when they don't necessarily want it. After all, Leo is fixed fire. Fortunately, Leo planets are only too happy to reciprocate any attention they receive. They'll repay the adoration of their fans a thousand times over with lavish compliments, lovely gifts, and wonderful, creative outings designed especially to amaze and delight. Leo's specialties are entertaining, having fun, and making big entrances and exits. Planets in this sign love drama. Since the Sun is the center of the solar system, occasionally your Leo planet may forget others are out there or that not every action is planned with them in mind. In other words, they can be a bit too touchy and "high-maintenance" at times. Above all else, Leo planets cannot help but live to be loved and appreciated, and they'll gather up any attention that comes their way. Sagittarius: November Planet: Jupiter Element: Fire Quality: Mutable 23 - December 21
  • 7. This third fire sign is ruled by Jupiter, the largest planet. It's mutable fire, so its enthusiasm can spread at times like a brush fire. Scattered? Well, maybe. This sign is out to experience everything life has to offer. Sagittarius planets tend to have terminal case of the grass-is-greener syndrome. They are adventurous, bored by routine, generous, and optimistic to a fault. They can also be excessive, tending to overdo and overindulge. These planets adore foreign places, foreign people, maps, and outdoor activities. They're not known for neatness or for accepting just a sliver of anything. They're only too happy to preach, advertise, philosophize, and learn by having the big picture explained. Sagittarian planets are also quite prophetic at times, since Jupiter is the planet that rules higher learning. They absolutely believe in the power of laughter and aren't above embarrassing themselves to make someone laugh. The Earth Signs - Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn • • • • Fire Signs Earth Signs Air Signs Water Signs - Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces Taurus: April Planet: Venus Element: Earth Quality: Fixed Aries, Taurus, Gemini, 21 Leo, Virgo, Libra, - Sagittarius Capricorn Aquarius May 20 As fast and impulsive as Aries is, Taurus, the fixed earth sign next door, loves to wait. Taurus has endless patience and turns any planet in this sign into a solid, thorough force to be reckoned with. Taurus planets never quit—even when they probably should. They're responsible, reliable, honest as they come, practical as the day is long, and not afraid of hard work. They are fixed, so their reputation for stubbornness isn't accidental. However, the opposite side of the coin of stubborn is "solids—and that they are. Planets in Taurus are regular rocks, endowed with a "stick to-itiveness" that other planets envy. Since Taurus is ruled by Venus, it's not surprising to find that these planets are sensual and luxury-loving, too. They love to be spoiled—whether with good food, fine wine, or a Renoir painting. Taurus planets need peace and quiet like no others do. They don't like their schedules to be disrupted, and they often need to be reminded that comfortable habits can become ruts.
  • 8. Virgo: August Planet: Mercury Element: Earth Quality: Mutable 23 - September 22 This sign has had a bad rap for far too long. Virgo has been called picky and critical almost since the first astrologer, but here's where it ends. Although it's true that Virgo is an automatic fault-finder, Virgo is Mercury-ruled, like Gemini; and it is the sign with the keenest eye for details. When you’re that good at particulars, it’s natural to see tiny flaws in things. Your Virgo planet is a troubleshooter extraordinaire. It exercises discrimination because its job is to analyze and suggest remedies to problems. This sign is also wonderful at lists and schedules. More than anything, your Virgo planets will delight in helping, and since it's a mutable earth sign, this energy is willing to adapt to any task. Keep your Virgo planet happy by keeping it busy. Capricorn: December Planet: Saturn Element: Earth Quality: Cardinal 22 - January 20 Your Capricorn planet wants to build things. Saturn rules Capricorn, so this energy seeks to erect structures or buildings, and to create careers or start up an organization. These planets know how to run things. They're authority figures constantly marching, shaking their fingers, and saying things like "Better not," "Shouldn't," and "Let's not rush into this." Capricorn has a need to exercise caution and discipline, to set down rules and live by them, to sec boundaries, and to put plans in motion from within those limits. Contrary to popular opinion, they're not humorless. Capricorn is the sign with the driest wit out there. Here's where your sense of propriety and tradition will be strong, where doing things the old-fashioned way and paying respect to the elders will be the only way to go. Your Capricorn planets are also starved in some way. They want a return for the time they invest. The Air Signs - Gemini, Libra, Aquarius
  • 9. • • • • Fire Signs Earth Signs Air Signs Water Signs - Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces Gemini: May Planet: Mercury Element: Air Quality: Mutable Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Leo, Virgo, Libra, 21 - Sagittarius Capricorn Aquarius June 21 Mercury ruled Gemini is our communications specialist. If something involves talking, writing, gesturing, or working hand-to-eye, your Gemini planet will love it. Mercury also rules short trips, so any planet in Gemini is an expert at making their way around the neighborhood in record time. This, in fact, is the sign that's famous for its incredible lightness of being, the sign that loves variety and new experiences. Gemini is mutable air, which translates into changing your mind. So, expect your Gemini planet to be chatty, entertaining, and versatile. This sign knows a little bit about everything. Scattered? May be somewhat. But no sign enjoys "just a taste" more. Gemini planets are experts at duality, too. They display at least two distinct sides of their personalities at all times. They're changeable, even fickle, and wonderfully curious. Libra: January Planet: Venus Element: Air Quality: Cardinal 21 - February 18 Libra is associated with balance and harmony, but your Libra planets won't necessarily arrive that way. It's Libra's job to restore balance, create harmony, and cooperate with all—not just the easy jobs. Both balance and harmony require an entity to give and take equally. Again, no easy task. Fortunately, your Libra planets are up for the job. No sign is more charming, social, and able to coax the same out of another. Libra is cardinal air, so it wants to start conversations. Libra planets are experts at behavior that's pleasing to others. They’re Venus-ruled, so they specialize in manners, courtesy, and small talk. Libra planets fit into any social situation and get along with just about everyone. They don't want to be alone, and, because they're gifted with the ability to pacify, they may sell out their own needs or the truth to buy momentary peace and a companion. Their real work is to see both sides
  • 10. of a situation, weigh the options, and keep their inner balance by remaining honest. Planet: Uranus Element: Air Quality: Fixed Aquarius: January 21 - February 18 This sign is ruled by Uranus, bringer of the unpredictable and head of the department of one never knows. So as wild and crazy a planet as Uranus is, this sign, his envoy, is just about always ready to .... amaze the masses and to rebel against whatever everyone else is doing. Planets in this sign are into their personal freedom. They insist on creating their own rules, fighting city hall whenever possible, and deliberately breaking tradition. They adore change, especially of the sudden kind. Abrupt reversals are their specialty, so others often perceive them as erratic, unstable, or unreliable energies. But as changeable as it seems to be, Aquarius is a fixed air sign. When it commits to a cause or to an intellectual ideal, it's really committed. Aquarian planets are often much better at friendship than love—they value like-minded folk and need to be with kindred spirits to recharge. The Water Signs - Cancer, Scorpio & Pisces • • • • Fire Signs Earth Signs Air Signs Water Signs - Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Sagittarius Capricorn Aquarius Cancer: June 22 - July 22 Planet: Moon Element: Water Quality: Cardinal This Moon-ruled sign rules the home, family, motherhood, and children. It's also in charge of emotions, so expect any Cancer planet to operate "from its gut." Cancer
  • 11. specializes in instinct. It's cardinal water—good at emotional beginnings and keeping private. But the world is a scary place to Cancer planets—they're emotionally vulnerable, sensitive, and easily hurt. Cancer planets often long for their safe nests. Because they love with the energy of the Moon, Cancer planets say "I love you" by tending to your needs for food, warmth, or a place to sleep. They offer the very best hugs in the zodiac. The problem with Cancer planets is that they often become needy or unable to function unless they feel someone or something is dependent on them. They are moody, but it's their job to be—they're Moon-ruled. Scorpio: October 24 - November 22 Planet: Pluto Element: Water Quality: Fixed Water signs are gifted by being able to sense. Cancer uses its instinct, and Pisces uses its intuition. However, Scorpio operates on its perceptive abilities. Planets in this sign are detectives, experts at the delicate art of strategy. Your Scorpio planets sift through every situation for subtle clues, which they analyze carefully to determine what's really going on. Because they're good at spotting clues, they're also gifted at sending equally subtle signals back into the environment, and at imperceptibly altering a situation by manipulating it with the right word or movement. Scorpio planets are constantly searching for intimacy. They want the real stuff from all encounters. No lighthearted Libra chit-chat—they want to bare their souls. They seek out intensity and crises. They can be relentless, obsessive, and jealous—remember that this is fixed water energy, so Scorpio feels things deeply and forever. Give your Scorpio planets what they crave: the opportunity to walk fire and to experience life-and-death situations. They're wells of limitless energy. Pisces: February 19 - March 20 Planet: Neptune Element: Water Quality: Mutable
  • 12. Pour a glass of water onto a table, and you'll see how mutable water flows into every comer. With no walls to contain it, Pisces, like this water, bonds itself emotionally to whatever is exposed. This is the source of Pisces' well-deserved reputation for compassion. It is also the source of a tendency to escape reality. Planets in this sign are ultra sensitive, feeling anything and everything. They're psychic sponges that often need time alone to unload and reassemble themselves. Exposure to others, especially crowds, is exhausting co your Pisces planet. It's in tins sign that you may find a tendency to cake in stray people and animals, but also where you’ll need to watch for the possibility of being victimized or taken advantage of in some way. Pisces planets are not known for their realistic view of the world— they see the best in any person or situation—but when reality steps in they sometimes can be disappointed- These planets are the romantics of the zodiac. Let them dream in healthy ways.
