  • 1. CLASS CONTRACT Draw up a class contract specifying 10 rules which will form a consistent part of the group’s classroom practice for the semester.
  • 2. Objective
    • To create a classroom rules and make a contract that makes them feel in control and confident of classroom expectations.
    • The contract acts as a foundation visible tool for positive reinforcement throughout the year.
  • 3. Definition
    • A class contract is an agreement made between learners and the teacher to follow certain rules and standard.
    • It applies to both the learners and the teacher and is drawn up at the beginning of the course.
  • 4. The Class Contract Lesson
    • Teacher puts students in groups of about three to four.
    • Teacher gives groups 10 minutes to brainstorm a list of five positive classroom rules.
    • Groups write their choices on the black/whiteboard.
    • Teacher asks whole class to find the most common rules between all groups. Students vote on top five if necessary.
  • 5.
    • Teacher compiles the fresh list of top five positive classroom rules on the board.
    • Teacher asks the class if they agree. If one person disagrees, the class must re-arrange the list. The drafting does not end until the entire class agrees.
    • Teacher types up the classroom rules on paper. For homework, students must take it home, show parent/guardian and both must read and sign it.
  • 6. Class contract
    • We agree to:
    • 1. Come to class.
    • 2. Make sure that when we miss class that we contact the others in our group.
    • 3. That we will work on group assignments collaboratively.
    • 4. Switch roles per assignment.
  • 7.
    • 5. Show up at meetings and workshop on time.
    • 6. Complete assignments on time.
    • 7. Assist others having trouble with the assignments.
    • 8. Give undivided attention and will not side talk or encourage anyone else to side talk during class.
  • 8.
    • 9. Participate 100% to create value for myself and to make this course worthwhile for me.
    • 10. Respect each other opinion and offer positive feedback.
