  • Eglinton Crosstown LRT  Project  $4.9 B (2010$), funded by the Province of Ontario  19 kilometres east-west LRT from Kennedy to Jane/Black Creek, including 10 kilometers of tunnel  Connections to Yonge-University-Spadina Subway, Scarborough RT and GO Stouffville  Up to 26 stations 2

  • Tunnelling Update  TBM 1 is well underway with tunnelling; just recently bored through our west headwall at Keele St.  TBM 2, a twin machine, has been assembled and is following closely behind 4

  • Tunnel Drive Works Current Status  In 2013 the majority of tunnel works took place between Black Creek Drive and the vicinity of Allen Road  In 2014 work continues east of Allen Road  Crews are starting the construction of headwalls and utility relocation at future station sites along Eglinton Avenue West 11
  • Tunnel Drive Works  Headwalls: Temporary support walls for future excavation of the LRT stations.  Made of concrete and installed to the depth of the future track level  Two methods of installation used: Secant Pile Walls, Jet Grout  Machinery including drill rigs, grout tanks, diggers and other equipment 12

  • Grout Plant for Headwall Construction Why a grout plant at Chaplin?  Headwalls for Chaplin required  Gilgorm adjacent to work site  Gilgorm to remain open one lane northbound  Allows efficient use of space  Other options examined included Vesta Drive and Eglinton  Gilgorm preferred because of: reduced property impact reduced footprint on Eglinton Ave. 16
  • Grout Plant at Chaplin  The site will be situated on Metrolinxowned property and occupy City of Toronto roadway  A fence will enclose the site to demarcate the site from the public roadway throughout the entire works  The plant will service headwall construction for Chaplin Station and cross-passages at Vesta Dr and Castle Knock Road  The site is expected to be in place for approximately 8-10 months 17
  • Grout Plant at Chaplin Advantages of jet grout technique for headwall installation: Reduce requirement for extensive utility relocation Overall construction time savings 18
  • Timeline With appropriate permissions in place Metrolinx’ contractor will:  Begin to set up the grout plant  Install fencing and secure the perimeter  Install grout lines in the roadway  Test works  Begin Chaplin headwall construction works  Chaplin headwall construction is currently scheduled to commence in March 2014  8-10 months anticipated  Headwall works at Avenue Road and Bathurst are currently being reviewed 19
  • Chaplin Work Staging- South Setup  Work is set up on the south side of Eglinton  The work zone is separated from the ROW with concrete barriers and fencing  Unoccupied traffic lanes remain open on the north side of Eglinton with one lane in each direction  Through-traffic southbound on Chaplin at Eglinton will not be permitted  Southbound traffic must exit at Eglinton or choose an alternate route  Expected duration: Approximately 4 months 20
  • Chaplin Work Staging- North Setup  A work site is set up on the north side of Eglinton  The work zone is separated from the ROW with concrete barriers and fencing  Unoccupied traffic lanes remain open on the south side of Eglinton with one lane in each direction  Through-traffic northbound on Chaplin at Eglinton will not be permitted  Northbound traffic must exit at Eglinton or choose an alternate route  Expected duration: Approximately 4 months  Latimer Avenue is closed to/from Eglinton during this phase 21

  • Next Steps  Community Relations will outreach to specific condos and apartment buildings to raise awareness of the site and planned works  Co-ordination with TTC will continue to ensure continued bus service  Co-ordination with local Fire Station also continues to ensure service levels 25
