This document provides information about CrossMark, a service that allows publishers to maintain and display metadata about changes to published scholarly works. CrossMark uses a logo linked to metadata that tells readers whether there have been any updates to an article and where to find the publisher-maintained version. Participation is optional for publishers, who agree to keep CrossMark metadata up to date and display the logo properly. The document outlines the basic steps publishers would need to take to participate, such as creating a policy page and depositing metadata, as well as costs. An initial pilot with four publishers is planned to start in mid-2011.
