Twitter use in the USA: why such a passion? Becauseits short + fast + hashtag efficientAccording toTechCrunch, US do havethe most Twitter useraccounts created. This is why the electoralcampaign is so followedonline, and bothcandidates are veryactive on social mediaplatforms, andspecifically on Twitter.
You want to follow Mr Obama and Mr Romney in their electoral campaigns? Have a look at the map that Twitter created! (next slide) As an amazing polling tool alternative, this interactive map showcases tweets by both candidates. We can filter tweets by: - keyword, - state, - candidate. One can directly retweet or favourite what is being tweeted by the candidates while on the map! This tool enables anyone to see where the most popular tweets were posted, and to analyze the way topics resonate within a specific state or area.Source: Wired Magazine article on Nov. the 1st, 2012.
What we think about it... Simple - Easy to use - Efficient - Full of exclusive content such as high and low influential rates in each states For me, everything is said: if you follow the american presidentialelections and you want to have a look at what is tweeted, you should definitely check out this map! The ultimate outcome of Twitter was, of course, to show how much this platform is popular, and how much it can generate online interaction and national engagement! (dark blue/red areas on the map)
What could be the outcome of this Twitter map for ourhospitality industry? The high online national engagement rate tells us how much American people needand like to share and show their ideas and convictions. We could then imagine using this kind of interactive Twitter map for different purposes:- if a hotel chain or independent wants to analyze a new place to open a hotel, they canlaunch a map like this, and try to interact with potential customers, asking them tochose between 2 destinations, and see who will answer or retweet, and from wherethe interaction comes from, geographically speaking;- this twitter map could also be used when appointing a new GM or departmentmanager: a kind of public (or restricted to the companys personnel) positionappointment, where the candidates have to make them known by the people they willwork with, and try to justify their strengths compared to his/her opponent;- marketing and department managers could definitely have one to see where theirtweets are most popular - beyond the simple statistics given by Facebook or socialmanagement systems. Any other idea? Well be happy to hear from you!
