What do you need?
A Picture (big enough to get about 180 wide x 540 tall pixel rectangle)
Picture software (Microsoft Office Picture Manager will work just fine)
A little imagination
A little math
Taller FB Profile Pictures
This picture started off as 2304 x 1728 pixels (it needs to be pretty large to give you wiggle room – think tall rectangle)
Taller FB Profile Pictures
Start thinking rectangles that are 3 times taller than they are wide.
Taller FB Profile Pictures
You need to resize your picture with the rectangle in mind. Play around with the resize percentages under Picture >> Resize.
Taller FB Profile Pictures
I cut this one down to 32% of its original size. It is now 757 pixels wide by 553 pixels high. (I’m shooting for around 540 pixels high)
Now crop using Picture >> Crop . I’m going to choose a rectangle that is 180 pixels wide by 540 pixels tall. It shows you the size on the right (in MS Office Picture Manager). You can even move the rectangle around once you have the right size.
Taller FB Profile Pictures
Now I look tall and skinny.
Now the important math part. Your photo needs to be 3 times taller than it is wide. 180 x 540 (540 is 180 x 3).
The max used to be 200 x 600, I’m not sure what it is now. 180 x 540 works well for me.
For example if your picture was 170 pixels wide, it would need to be 510 pixels high.
There is wiggle room, but I always use the 3x figure and it works.
Taller FB Profile Pictures
