This presentation explains how to build a firm from the ground up using low-cost technology, on-line resources, and better procedures. We discuss software solutions including cloud services like email, document storage and collaboration, online backups and VOIP. On the hardware side, we talk about laptops, Macs and Tablet PCs. We will also briefly explore and explain threats to your electronic data, and we will show you proactive, affordable ways to reduce or eliminate these threats, and the damage that they can do to your business.

  • Most Legal Specific software is moving to the cloud. If not, you can just run Parallels
  • Allows you to run Windows Programs on a Mac. With Coherence, you might not even know that it is not a Mac. You will need to purchase a Windows Operating System.

  • VOIP Phone
    Call Service
    Hosted Email
  • VOIP stands for Voice Over the Internet Protocol. Instead of plugging your phone into a phone jack, you plug it into the internet. There is no need for a PBX at the office.

    The advantages are:

Portable, you could bring the physical phone anywhere, hook it up to the internet, and it would work.
    Cheaper then traditional land lines.
Web Portals that allow you to forward lines from anywhere to anywhere.
    Smartphone Apps
    Soft Phones.

Timeslips requires you to also have an accounting package like QuickBooks or Peachtree.

Legal specific accounting software makes it harder to commit malpractice.
  • When choosing legal specific software check to see what it integrates with. If you are using a practice management software, you want to make sure you can export your time entries. You want them to be able to link with Outlook or Gmail. Also, a link to DropBox, Google Drive, NetDocuments is a must.
  • NetDocuments and Worldox are is a legal specific software, the rest are made for the general public.
  • These are all public cloud practice management software products:
