  • 2. About The City <ul><li>Udaipur , the capital of the former princely state of Mewar is a beautiful city in Rajasthan  famous for its lakes and palaces. A current tourist favorite, especially for up-market Westerners, it was a backdrop for numerous movies including the James Bond flick &quot;Octopussy&quot;. </li></ul>
  • 3. What’s So Special? <ul><li>Udaipur is referred to as the &quot;Venice of the East“ and the &quot;Most Romantic City of India&quot; and not without reason. Tourists flock to this enchanting old & modern town. </li></ul>
  • 4. History <ul><li>Formerly known as Mewar, Udaipur was founded in 1559 when Maharaja Udai Singh II took flight from the final sacking of Chittor by the Mughal emperor Akbar. </li></ul>
  • 5. Culture <ul><li>The city is still inhabited by people of Bhil tribe. On your first look, you will find them rugged, but these people are really good at heart. Untouched by the pace of modern times, these desert people are well-built, simple and cheerful. Colorful festivals and fairs depict the cultural prosperity of Udaipur. </li></ul>
  • 6. Climate <ul><li>Udaipur has a tropical climate. In summer, the temperature varies between 28.8°C and 42.3°. Expect a mild winter with temperatures between 2.5°C and 28.8°C . The best time to visit is during the winters preferably September to March. </li></ul>

Getting to Udaipur <ul><li>This Udaipur is easily accessible from all major destinations. </li></ul><ul><li>AIR: Dabok airport is 24km from the city centre with daily flights . from Delhi,  Mumbai & Jaipur. </li></ul><ul><li>TRAIN: There are now daily trains from New Delhi and Jaipur, with an overnight train from Mumbai. </li></ul><ul><li>BUS: As it lies in the Golden Quadrilateral, numerous bus routes exist </li></ul>
  • 8. Udaipur City Palace <ul><li>The splendid City Palace, posing over the fascinating Lake Pichola, is one of the most beautiful palatial structures. It has number of small and big palaces, museums and gardens. Be sure to visit Amar Vilas, Badi Mahal, Durbar Hall and Sheesh Maahal </li></ul>
  • 9. The Lakes <ul><li>Udaipur is a lovely blend of water, lush green hills. The city has many beautiful lakes that add to its kaleidoscope. </li></ul><ul><li>Pichola Lake  : An artificial fresh water lake, named after the nearby Picholi village. </li></ul><ul><li>Fateh Sagar Lake  - An artificial lake with three small islands. Every year a festival called the Hariyali Amavasya Mela is organized at the lake. </li></ul>
