  • 3. Introduction • The Strata suite of certifications are foundation level qualifications. • They allow individuals new to the Information Technology, to demonstrate their understanding of basic technologies and how they are used.
  • 4. Certificates Available • CompTIA Strata - Fundamentals of PC Functionality – In the UK, 2 exams must be achieved: • CompTIA Strata - Fundamentals of PC Functionality Technology • The CompTIA Strata - Fundamentals of PC Technology • CompTIA Strata IT for Sales • CompTIA Strata Green IT
  • 5. CompTIA Strata - Fundamentals of PC Functionality • The CompTIA Strata Fundamentals of PC Functionality allows individuals to demonstrate their understanding of basic concepts such as: – setting up a PC – installing software – recognising / preventing security threats
  • 6. CompTIA Strata - Fundamentals of PC Technology • The CompTIA Strata Fundamentals of PC Technology allows individuals to demonstrate an understanding of – the characteristics of hardware and peripherals – basic compatibility issues and operational problems – safety guidelines – preventative maintenance
  • 7. CompTIA Strata – 2 Exams • These exam are only available in the United Kingdom • When both exams have been successfully completed they can be used as evidence towards an ITQ Level 1 award
  • 8. CompTIA Strata IT for Sales • The CompTIA Strata IT for Sales enables an individuals to demonstrate an understanding of the following concepts: – Engaging with customers – Identifying types of technology users – Coordinate with technical staff to ensure customer satisfaction – Providing appropriate solutions based on customer requirements - including Green IT and preventative maintenance
  • 9. CompTIA Strata Green IT • CompTIA's Strata Green IT certificate allow IT professionals to demonstrate an understanding of Green technologies. The concepts covered include: – A specialised knowledge of current IT methodologies – Development, deployment, and calculating the ROI for green IT initiatives – Power management – IT virtualisation techniques – Safe disposal of waste – Standards and regulations
  • 10. Profiles • Who is Strata designed for? • How long will it take them to achieve? • What is their progression route? • What job role will Strata allow them to fulfil?
  • 11. Profiles • Sian Pryce • Age: 21! (again) • Computing experience: Competent User • Why Strata: “Got really fed up with not understanding the messages my computer was sending to me” • Progression: A+ and Windows configuration.
  • 12. Profile • Jack Stevens • Age: 18 • Computing experience: Self taught, picks up technical knowledge easily • Why Strata: Needed commercial standard qualification • Running his own company – currently updating Chelsea FC IT systems
  • 13. Profile • Steve Edge • Age: 40 ish! • Computing experience: Some computing experience but at a lower level • What Strata has done for Steve: Has expanded his teaching portfolio • Progression: A+ and Windows 7 Configuration
  • 14. Summary • Strata – Excellent stepping stone to further qualifications for all abilities – Enhances careers – First level industry standard technical qualification for all age groups – Can be achieved well within an academic year
