May 13

  1. 1. 1THE REAL TRUTH ABOUT MAY 13Ex-Umno man defends DAP against May 13 chargeApril 30, 2013 at 3:26 am Leave a commentEx-Umno man defends DAP against May 13 charge• Kuek Ser Kuang Keng• 9:58AM Apr 30, 2013JOHOR Ex-Umno strongman Mohd Tamrin Abdul Ghafar has become an unexpectedally in Pakatan Rakyat’s bid to counter the claim that DAP parliamentary leader Lim KitSiang was behind the May 13 riots in 1969.The former Batu Berendam MP, who is also the second son of former deputy premierAbdul Ghafar Baba, has claimed that the incident was the outcome of a “mini coup”orchestrated by Umno leaders including Dr Mahathir Mohamad.“What (then home minister Muhammad) Ghazali (Shafie,) told (PKR de facto leader)Anwar (Ibrahim) and me, when we were in Umno Youth, was that the incident was amini coup planned by Umno men, and that Mahathir was involved,” Tamrin said duringtwo Pakatan ceramahs in Gelang Patah last night.
  2. 2. 2“(First prime minister) Tunku (AbdulRahman) wrote in his column ‘As I SeeIt’ in The Star two years before hepassed away, that the incident was adeliberate seizure of power by Umnoleaders who then blamed it on DAP andthe Chinese.”Lim Kit Siang is running in Gelang Patah, against incumbent Johor Menteri Besar AbdulGhani Othman, in the hope of extending Pakatan’s 2008 ‘political tsunami’ to Johor.Tamrin’s disclosure supports the argument of academician Kua Kia Soong that the racialclash in 1969 was the result of a coup d’état by then deputy premier Abdul RazakHussein against the Tunku, and that Mahathir supported it.Tamrin recalled that the Tunku had expelled Mahathir from Umno after the latter wrotean open letter calling for the Tunku’s resignation after the riots.“After the Tunku stepped down and Razak took over the premiership, he took Mahathirback into Umno and appointed him as education minister.“This shows that Razak was grateful toMahathir (for pressuring the Tunku to stepdown),” he explained, adding that Kit Siang(left) was not in Kuala Lumpur during theclashes. He said the continued reference to theincident by Umno, in order to frighten Malayvoters, indicates that the BN is desperate. With anti-establishment sentiment growingrapidly among Chinese Johoreans to Pakatan’s apparent advantage, Umno has flashedthe race card to consolidate its support among the Malay electorate in Johor. Its campaigners have been found distributing publicity material to Malay voters accusingDAP and Kit Siang of causing the May 13 riots. To counter the charge, Pakatan has brought in several former Umno leaders including ex-law minister Zaid Ibrahim and former Selangor menteri besar Muhammad MuhammadTaib to defend DAP and Kit Siang.
  3. 3. 3‘Which is the racist party?’Speaking at his first ceramah in Taman Skudai Indah, to a mixed crowd of 300, Tamrincontrasted the track record of DAP and MCA to prove that DAP is “not a racist party”.“Since its formation in 1966, DAP has had more than 10,000Malay, Indian and Punjabi members. During its first party polls,Daeng Ibrahim, a Malay leader, was elected as vice-chairperson.“Since the formation of the party up to the last general election,a total of 55 Malay candidates have contested parliamentary orstate constituencies on the DAP ticket.”However, Tamrin (left) noted, MCA has never allowed a singleMalay or Indian to become its member since its formation in1951.“So which is the racist party?” he asked.“I have known Kit Siang since I became a MP in 1986 … he has never gone against therights of Malays. He has fought for the principle of a Malaysian Malaysia. How is thatdifferent from 1Malaysia? What is the difference? The difference is that Kit Siang is notcorrupted.”Tamrin urged the Malays to thank DAPsecretary-general Lim Guan Eng (right), whohad been jailed for three years after speaking outfor a Malay minor who was allegedly raped byan Umno leader.
Abdul Hadi sekali lagi melemparkan tohmahan apabila menyatakan kononnya BR1Mhanya diberi ketika dekat pilihan raya sedangkan kerajaan Barisan Nasional (BN) sudahmenyalurkan bantuan itu sejak tahun lalu lagi.
Hadir sama Pengerusi Pakatan Rakyat Perak, Datuk Seri Nizar Jamaluddin.Gerakan stalwart backs Hadi’s May 13 standMay 1, 2013 at 12:34 pm Leave a commentGerakan stalwart backs Hadi’s May 13 stand5:04PM May 1, 2013A Gerakan veteran emerged today to back PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, whoaccused Umno of masterminding the May 13 racial riots in 1969.Hadi told a politicalrally in Kuala Kangsar, Perak, on Monday that the bloody racial riots 44 years ago wereorchestrated by Umno to cling on to power.
  9. 9. 9“May 13 was not an ethnic phenomenon. It was a political occurrence,” former Gerakanleader Goh Cheng Teik told Malaysiakini.“Only those who were members of Umno or associated with it were involved. PASmembers had nothing to do with May 13.”Goh, 70, who served as a deputy minister and a Penang executive councillor 25 years, had done extensive research on the riots when he was a lecturer at Universiti Malaya andpublished a book, ‘The May Thirteenth Incident and Democracy in Malaysia’, in 1971.He joined politics three years later and was appointed parliamentary secretary to thenprime minister Abdul Razak Hussein.According to Goh, the riots in Kuala Lumpur started evenbefore the counter-procession was held by Umno in response toopposition victory marches in the wake of the unprecedentedgains by PAS, DAP and Gerakan in the 1969 general election.“Members, supporters and well-wishers of a ruling party thatprides itself in upholding the rule of law rioted before the startof a ‘victory’ procession in front of the official residence of thestate chief minister,” he said.A day of shame and sorrowGoh still believes there was no need for the nationwidedeclaration of the State of Emergency as the violence waslocalised, much like the recent militant incursion into LahadDatu in Sabah, and argued that the riots were mostlypolitically-driven.“That is why the disturbances were not national in character, according to (then primeminister) Tunku Abdul Rahman, but virtually confined to Kuala Lumpur.“No serious breach of the peace or act of violence took place in any other part ofPeninsular Malaysia on or after May 13.”The declaration of Emergency paved the way for the suspension of Parliament.Goh, who holds the distinction of being Malaysia’s first Harvard scholar, is currently anadjunct professor with Sunway University.Asked why he was speaking out on the issue now, he said young people today shouldknow the truth behind May 13, an issue repeatedly raised in the ongoing campaign forSunday’s general election.
  10. 10. 10“May 13 was not a day of glory for Malaysians. It was a day of shame and sorrow,”lamented Goh.Explain your role in May 13, Kit Siang to Dr MApril 30, 2013 at 5:50 pm Leave a commentK Pragalath | April 30, 2013Picking on Thamrin Ghaffar’s allegation, the DAP stalwart tells the former premier toclear the air.VIDEO INSIDEKUALA LUMPUR: DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang today alluded that former premier DrMahathir Mohamad is one of those behind the May 13 racial riots.“Yesterday during two ceramah in Johor, former deputy prime minister Ghafar Baba’sson Thamrin revealed that the May 13 was due to a mini-coup by a group of men inUmno to topple Tunku [Abdul Rahman]. Former foreign minister Ghazali Shafie in the1980s said that Mahathir was involved.“This shows that I am not involved in the May 13 incident. I was not even in KL fromMay 11 to 13, 1969. I was in Sabah,” he said during a press conference at the DAPheadquarters.Lim also urged Mahathir to clear the air on Thamrin’s revelation. On the same note, the DAP leader took a swipe at Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak forreminding the people of this lie – Lim’s involvement.“They even have a candidate who keeps saying this lie in and out of Parliament – ZulkifliNoordin. Najib is saying 1Malaysia but he is dividing the people,” he said.
  11. 11. 11Lim is also disappointed that BN is playing the race and religion cards against him.“There are rumours that I am anti-Malay, anti-Islam and anti-Malay monarchs. These areall lies. This shows Najib’s insincerity in signing the Transparency International –Malaysia’s integrity pledge,” he said.TAMRIN’S VIDEO CLIPS:https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=uI7xB3d2rNAhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=9Dbu0fxSRuk(The above may have been blocked or censored)TUNKU’S OWN WORDS:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOh3rszJ3sk
