  • 1. TxDOT’S THOROUGHFARE TRANSFER PROGRAM City Council Workshop September 12, 2013
  • 2. Background  On August 13th TxDOT introduced a Thoroughfare Transfer Program.  State owned thoroughfares that function as local streets were to be transferred to the local government.  Right-of-way  Pavement & Pavement Markings  Traffic Signs  Drainage Infrastructure
  • 3. Background  Local government would be responsible for capital improvements and the operation & maintenance.  Rehabilitation & Reconstruction  Expansion & Grade Separations  Permitting  Franchise Agreements  Details about the program and the process for transferring the streets were limited.
  • 4. Thoroughfares Under Consideration
  • 5. Proposed Program  Meeting of the Texas Transportation Commission on August 29th provided clarification.  Program is voluntary, not mandatory.  One-time funds for maintenance may be available from TxDOT if a thoroughfare is transferred.  Staff is scheduled to meet with TxDOT in the near future to continue discussing this program.
