    2. Our mission
      • Enabling the exchange of code and understanding among software companies and open source communities
    3. Why a CodePlex Foundation?
      • Commercial software developers currently under-participate in open source projects
        • Cultural differences
        • Differing development methodologies
        • Differing perspectives on copyright and patents
        • Differing perspectives on licensing
      • No other foundation is dedicated to changing that situation
    4. CodePlex’s Role in Ecosystem
      • Complementary to other open source Foundations
      • Provide additional choice for how commercial software companies and open source developers engage with each other
      • Pioneer licensing agreements and processes that help SW developers contribute to OSS projects
    5. CodePlex Foundation - The first 100 days
      • An independent, neutral forum
      • Incorporated as a non-profit; bylaws in place, charter to follow
      • Interim President and Board of Directors chosen but seeking permanent candidates
      • Within first 100 days, will involve the commercial software community in shaping governance and support for the Foundation
    6. Founding and Funding
      • Founded specifically to break down barriers to participation in open source projects in commercial settings
      • Initial funding of $1 million US from Microsoft
      • A 501c6 corporation
    7. Contributions, Licenses and Patents
      • Straightforward contributor agreement – see Foundation website
      • Where software companies contribute source, broad patent portfolios will not transfer.
      • Foundation will extend rights to all downstream developers and users of the contributed code
      • License-agnostic
    8. Governance
      • Non-profit, 501c6 corporation
      • Public bylaws at www.CodePlex.org
      • Interim President: Sam Ramji
      • Interim Board: Stephanie Davies Boesch, Sam Ramji, Miguel de Icaza, Britt Johnston, Bill Staples, and Shaun Walker
      • Seeking permanent candidates for Executive Director, Board of Directors, Advisory Board
      • Contribute names through Foundation website
    9. Participation – First 100 Days
      • Become/recommend a Sponsor
      • Become/recommend Executive Director
      • Become/recommend member of BoD or BoA
      • Comment on our bylaws, charter, and licensing agreements
      • Permanent Board of Directors will create Charter, process for contributing projects with broad community input
