It’s more an enabler for their applications As most applications are webified more important to, identify, priortise and report on these you need a layer of intelligence Policy layer and DPI are examples. Until recent technology advancements DPI was costly and difficult to provide within the network. Could do it at CPE layer but control and management of CPE devices across a range of access technologies
