MSR presentation - 16 Nov 2011 MSR presentation - 16 Nov 2011 Presentation Transcript

  • Each day they gather, come rain or shine, an estimated 100,000 men at sites across South Africa These are the “Men on the Side of the Road”... waiting hopefully for anyone who can offer them a job  16 November 2011
  • WHO IS MSR & WHAT DO WE DO?
    • MSR is a NPO that registers, verifies & evaluates mainly ”informal” skilled & semi-skilled labour such as painters, plumbers, electricians, handymen, gardeners, domestic workers, and many more…
    • We go to great lengths to ensure that we introduce customers to accredited
    • MSR members, who are known to us, have the skills the customer is looking
    • for and that we believe are reliable and trustworthy
    • Many South Africans are nervous to employ people they don’t know, which we understand considering the high crime levels that we are all affected by
    • However, MSR members are not unknowns. They are
    • men and women well known to us who have a proven
    • track record of being reliable and trustworthy
    • Every income earning South African can make a
    • difference in the life of the unemployed, whether by offering
    • them employment, or by donating to MSR who will in turn employ
    • the people to work on community projects.
  • WHAT IS OUR PURPOSE ?
    • MSR connects unemployed men and women to income opportunities
    • About 45% of women and men in South Africa are unemployed
    • Direct Outcomes:
      • Income for unemployed men and women (R10m in wages in 2011, R200m by 2013)
    • Secondary Outcomes:
      • Bring order to an unregulated market
      • Change mindsets around temporary labour
      • A platform for the unemployed
      • Training & skills development to improve the capacity to earn
      • MSR addresses these needs !
  • GREEN SOUTH AFRICA & ADOPT A PAVEMENT
    • Countless road sides and public spaces which
    • are poorly maintained and create an eyesore
    • We believe that many of these spaces can be
    • cleaned up, maintained & beautified with
    • relative ease
    • The project will create sustainable livelihoods
    • for teams of workers
    • Corporates, big business, and communities
    • are invited to sponsor this project
    • Sponsors will receive roadside
    • acknowledgement for their contributions
    • The sponsor funds will be used by MSR to
    • facilitate the initial beautification of the site
    • and thereafter ongoing maintenance of the road side
  • GREEN SOUTH AFRICA & ADOPT A PAVEMENT
    • The sponsors contribution to alleviating
    • unemployment will be acknowledged:
    • Acknowledgement Boards – The sponsors will be permitted boards bearing their logo, at each working site
    • Branding - The workers will wear “branded” clothing displaying the sponsors logo
