In the early 1900s, EVs were flourishing and were more popular than combustion engines Fast fwd : rising fuel prices and global warming concerns, there is a strong desire to escape from the hold of the internal combustion engine. EVs will help ease the strain on oil reserves and, with zero tailpipe emissions, lower greenhouse gas emissions. Cities and countries starting to put in place appropriate physical infrastructure, policies, and regulations. The Electric Revolution is in motion and will change the automotive landscape forever.
  • Battery costs will decline 60% to 65% between 2009 and 2020 (BCG) EVs may be 40% to 70% cheaper to operate than conventional cars by 2030 (McKinsey/Plan NTC) EV adoption rates will NOT threaten stability of electric grid as smart meters will be used, with most charging occurring at night (McKinsey/Plan NYC) EVs are a "disruptive technology" bringing new entrants, new supply & value chain allowing new distribution models, new selling propositions
