Australian Consortium for ‘In-Country’ Indonesian Studies (pronounced Ah-chee-chees) offers a range of short term and semester-long study programs at Indonesian universities A partnership of 19 Australian universities So far there have been more than 900 participating students since 1995 www.acicis.murdoch.edu.au
  3. 3. Why Study ‘In-Country’? • Put academic study into practice • Improve your Indonesian language • Gain credit towards your degree • Gain attributes which are attractive to future employers (e.g. bilingual, broad-minded, internationally aware and adaptable) www.acicis.murdoch.edu.au
  4. 4. Flexible-Immersion Gadjah Mada University (UGM), in Yogyakarta, is one of Indonesia’s top universities A mix of intensive language classes and regular units from any faculty in the university All classes are in Indonesian www.acicis.murdoch.edu.au
  5. 5. Yogyakarta Yogyakarta, which is located in central Java, is a bustling town of some 500, 000 people and the most popular tourist destination on Java.   8. 8. What is a ‘Kos’? Kos comes from the Dutch word “indekos” meaning boarding house The majority of students choose to stay in a kos surrounded by Indonesian students, as it gives them constant opportunities for language practice and learning www.acicis.murdoch.edu.au
