  • 2. There are three things that, together, make us unique: 1. A commitment to academic excellence • City is among the top 5% of universities in the world (Times Higher Education World Universities Rankings) • City has 12 broad academic areas undertaking research of world leading quality and made a strong submission to the 2014 Research Assessment Framework • City has a history and heritage stretching back to Victorian times
  • 3. There are three things that, together, make us unique: 2. Education relevant to business and the professions • City ranks in the top 10 in the UK for employability (The Sunday Times University Guide) and in the top 5 for starting salaries (Lloyds Bank)
  • 4. Education relevant to business and the professions: employability • In the autumn of 2013 alone, we had over 2,000 careers consultations, 25% for first years • More than 100 employers on campus, with thousands of graduate and placement vacancies

  • 7. History • 1852 Inns of Court School of Law founded – now part of City Law School • 1877 St Bartholomew’s College of Nursing founded – now part of School of Health Sciences • 1894 Northampton Institute founded by City of London livery companies: • many original subjects still offered

History • 1909 BSc offered • 1927 One of the first to educate Optometrists • 1966 City University London received Royal Charter • 2002 Sir John Cass Business School endowed by former Lord Mayor of London Sir John Cass • Strong links with City of London maintained through The Lord Mayor of London being the Chancellor of the University

Student satisfaction • City was the most improved English university in the most recent National Student Survey • In ‘overall satisfaction’ fourteen programmes achieved 90% or above 100% in Music, 99% in Psychology • 98% for ‘learning resources’ in Economics and Finance • 93% for ‘personal development’ in Economics and Finance, Engineering and Radiography • 92% for ‘academic support’ in Aeronautical Engineering
