  • VSPEX combines the best-in-class in hypervisors, servers, network, EMC storage and backup in solutions that allow customers to avoid the risks and complexity of building their own cloud infrastructures. By providing comprehensive documentation that includes the reference architectures and how to right-size them, our partners can provide simple, efficient, and flexible virtualization solutions that scale to meet their customer’s needs. Customers can leverage existing hardware, software, licenses, and skill sets to build a VSPEX that is tailored to their specific needs and environment. VSPEX solutions are sized for small to mid-sized business with affordable options to meet your specific use case.VSPEX also provides our partners with a complete go to market solution. VSPEX partners can leverage EMC sales collateral and marketing campaigns making selling and positioning easy.
  • This Slide shows the Currently available VSPEX Proven infrastructure. All VSPEX Reference Arictectures consist of a custoomers choice of hypervisor (VMware vSphere or Microsoft Hyper-V) and your choice of physical server and network , coupled with EMC Storage and Backup.On the left side are the Private Cloud Solutions which enable customers to consolidate aging infrastructures onto a more agile and responsive platform.If your business is a smaller company and you’d consider yourself an IT generalist then VNXe based VSPEX are ideal. With Wizards you can add storage for VMware or Hyper-V with ease. VNXe based VSPEX will scale up to 100 Virtual Machines , and are designed with both EMC storage but also EMC Backup and Recovery options. For configurations of 50VMs VSPEX are Proven with EMC NetWorker and DataDomain. For larger configurations we sized VSPEX with Avamar and DataDomain which are optimized for virtual environments.On the right side of this slide are our End User Computing (EUC) Offerings. You can choose Citrix XenDesktop or VMware view which run on VMware vSphere 5. VSPEX EUC solutions are sized to scale from 250 Virtual Desktops on the VNXe to 2000 Virtual Desktops on VNX.

  • Each solution stack is built out in its entirety per the reference architecture that VDI:The desktop definition comes from the IO load generated from the testing tool (LoginVSI).  It utilizes real applications executed in each desktop to simulate a users workload.  The applications (office/zip/video) are itemized in the RA.  Server Virtualization:We measured the IO profile and sizes for the local virtualized data center (IT lab) and increased it by a percentage.  Since this is an aggregate workload across many VMs (active and idle) it was a viable “average” workload to use.BackupTesting Scenario:VNX CIFS-based file sharesPerform Avamar “in-guest” backups of GPO assigned:User Profile data – replicated (View Persona Mgmt) to CIFS shareUser Files – redirected to CIFS share (not assigned by View Persona GPO)GPO assigned mapped drives assigned to shares (required for Avamar backups): U:\\ = user files; P:\\ = user profilesMapped drive letters are hidden to end userUser can only restore U:\\ drive files; Administrator can restore all files First Backup (all users received the same user files): 5.5MBs of user files; ~3MBs of user profile dataSecond Backup (all users received the same user files): ~1MBs of new user files (represents 20% change in data); No manual change to user profile data (files may have been added by Windows 7 proccess)VMware vCenter Operations used to collect metrics, including in-guest WMI data
  • One example of that support is our commitment to create CVD’s for each of the reference architectures that include Cisco product, as well as provide support for VSPEX labs.
  • Until today, one of the major challenges facing users in virtual environments was a management complexity gap. Storage administrators have access to detailed information on the array, but lack visibility into how the virtual server is configured and which virtual machines are consuming what for storage resources. VMware administrators, on the other hand, can see the details of the virtual server environment and virtual machines, but lack visibility into the storage system. On VNX series, Unisphere together with vCenter Server integration makes storage management in a virtualized environment a seamless experience. Each administrator can use their familiar interface to gain full visibility into virtual and physical resources, transparently provision storage, integrate replication, and access and offload all storage functions to the storage system. To further drive efficiency in the VMware space, EMC has delivered on the VMware vStorage APIs for Array Integration (VAAI), allowing the VNX series is be fully optimized for virtualized environments. This technology offloads VMware storage-related functions from the server to the storage system, enabling more efficient use of server and network resources for increased performance and consolidation.Letting the VNX series perform common data management tasks, like vMotion, result in:10-times network I/O10-times more virtual machines10-times faster response timeThe VNX series delivers unmatched VMware management integration and optimization and is ideal if you are running VMware.
  • The FAST Suite improves performance and maximizes storage efficiency by deploying this FLASH 1st strategy. FAST Cache, an extendable cache of up to 2.1TB, gives a real-time performance boost by ensuring the hottest data is served from the highest-performing FLASH drives for as long as needed. FAST VP then complements FAST Cache by optimizing storage pools on a regular, scheduled basis. You define how and when data is tiered using policies that dynamically move most active data to high-performance drives (e.g. FLASH), and less active data to high-capacity drives, all in one-gigabyte increments for both block and file data.Together, as parts of the FAST software suite, they automatically optimize for the highest system performance and the lowest storage cost simultaneously.
