  • MDS provides redundant, virtualized and highly dependable architecture that stood the test of time for over a decade. Now Cisco expands its fabric class intelligent platform with another leap in technology that beats anything that is currently available in the market. The intelligent switch provides line rate 16 gigabit ports, adds Fibre Channel over Ethernet capability and expands FCIP bandwidth from 1gige to 10 gige while adding 2 additional FCIP links for total of 6 as compared to previous generation.

    The chassis has an embedded device manager that provides storage administrator with full management capability for provisioning and monitoring the ports. Cisco management of the intelligent switch doesn’t end there, the ultimate solution for managing MDS and Nexus topologies is robust, scale-out, highly available server client solution called Data Center Network Manager. The solution has been around since the birth of the MDS platform and contains tools to provision and configure the vast technologies supported on the MDS platform. These technologies include data mobility manager, IO acceleration, FCIP and many others.

    Here is the list of few key capabilities that MDS 9250i provides:

    DMM is embedded in MDS 9250i to enable Storage array consolidation by splitting data traffic over multiple heterogeneous storage arrays reducing time to move storage between hosts and storage arrays as compared to traditional host replication and more expensive homogenous array to array replication methods. This technology is fully supported by DCNM and deployed via DMM wizard simplifying the configuration and mapping out the deployment for compliance validation.
    IO Acceleration is another great feature that compresses traffic over existing FCIP links to enable greater data flow without the need to invest in bigger pipelines between data centers.


    As integral part of MDS platform DCNM also provides excellent monitoring capabilities that expand visibility into traffic flows for troubleshooting connectivity while also sending alerts to storage administrators based on pre-defined alert policies. These functions are combined with DCNM integration into VMware vsphere for monitoring and mapping virtual workloads enabling better troubleshooting of connectivity and workloads. MDS has best in breed integrated management solution that withstands the test of time with new generation intelligent switch.
