There are some vendors that say the network still just connects things and all you need is a tactical network, capable of addressing existing business requirements and current challenges. We call this the "Good Enough Network". We want to debunk the myth that ’good’ is good enough for your business: http://newsroom.cisco.com/dlls/2011/ts_042511.html

  • asmallri asmallri Hi janescott,
'...The good news is that for all networking professionals the market is rapidly transforming and it allows customers to have choice from multiple vendors, all with broad capabilities.' This statement would have been applicable anytime over the last 15 years and will likely remain true for the foreseeable future. The central issue is also unchanged, which vendor or vendors can provide the required solutions that enables the businesses to be more responsive, productive, competitive and deliver positive business outcomes. History has shown that such outcomes do not necessarily map to the 'broad capabilities' of boxes.

  • janecscott janecscott Yes, I have read the Gartner report 'Debunking the Myth of the Single Vendor Network'. The good news is that for all networking professionals the market is rapidly transforming and it allows customers to have choice from multiple vendors, all with broad capabilities. 1 year ago Reply

  • davidwmcculloch davidwmcculloch Hey 'altview',

The debate we're having on Wednesday invites customers to consider network TCO through the broader lenses of capital cost AND opportunity cost. If you’re responsible for a network that is critical to the future success of a business, you'll hear arguments that you can’t afford to prioritize capex to the detriment of capability. That's one of the 'seven deadly network sins' we'll address at the event.

    Best regards,

  • altview altview Useful to compare the findings of Gartner’s report ’Debunking the Myth of the Single-Vendor Network’. Gartner found that “introducing a second networking vendor will reduce TCO for most organizations by at least 15% to 25% over a five-year time frame” and that they did not encounter “one example where operational cost savings would offset the equipment cost premium that Cisco generally charges.” 1 year ago Reply

  • CiscoSystems Cisco Systems at Cisco Systems Webcast 4/27 8am PT: On Wednesday, April 27, 2011 Cisco will host a live IPTV broadcast to debunk the Myth of the 'Good Enough' Network. We will outline the seven most common misperceptions about taking a tactical, multi-vendor approach to building business-critical networks. The webcast will be hosted by Rob Lloyd, Cisco's executive vice president of Worldwide Operations, and will feature executives from The Royal Bank of Scotland and BlueWater Communications Group. http://newsroom.cisco.com/dlls/2011/ts_042511.html 1 year ago Reply
