  • Every customer shapes their own journey to the Cloud. You can view this ‘“World of many clouds™” as the evolution of the intersection between: Traditional customer IT environments and Public cloud services.  On one end, traditional customer IT environments has now progressed to include private clouds, grown out of the standardization, virtualization and automation of data center environments. Conversely, we have a number of public cloud services that have evolved from basic application hosting to now include sophisticated SaaS, IaaS or Virtual Private Cloud offerings brought to us by cloud providers. The lines separating these two very different environments are blurring. We believe that it’s no longer about favoring one approach (e.g., Private Cloud) versus another (e.g., Public Cloud). The debate in that regard is over. Most customers need to have both options available at the same time. In essence, hybrid cloud becomes the new normal. However, the ability to combine and dynamically aggregate cloud services from private and public clouds can only occur if you can rely on a truly open and secure hybrid cloud. And for that to take place you ought to have the ability to move cloud workloads across heterogeneous environments with consistent network and security policies. And this represents a core requirement for IT organizations to be able to effectively assume the role of brokers of IT services and retain control.  Taking it a step further, we envision the brokerage of IT services driving cloud services towards the concept of Cloud Federation (or Federation of Cloud Services). This would de-facto represent the inception of a global Intercloud. Just as the Internet grew out of the connection of multiple isolated networks, the Intercloud is based on the assumption that each single cloud does not have infinite physical resources or ubiquitous geographic presence. No single organization – not even the largest cloud providers – can keep up with the scale required for the IoE. Cloud providers would be able to build a global marketplace via federation of services from multiple peer providers, potentially enabling dynamic trading of cloud services. This will enable customers to access pre-integrated cloud services, experience consistency in metering, billing, consumption and SLAs, realize increased economies of scale, and help standardize on a cloud infrastructure and architecture that best complements their on premise IT capabilities.
