    • Solar Concentrator Project
      • My mentor, Christopher Meagher, had me working on various parts of a solar concentrator project.
        • Framework

        • Parabolic Concentrator
        • Solar tracker/Weatherdome

    • Original
      • The original design was drawn on a white board and had several changes made to
    • Digital
      • After drawing up the design on the white board I transferred it to QCAD and Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) program.
    • Materials
      • To build the frame I used steel rods and several Nuts and Bolts
    • Putting it together
      • To help me put it together I worked with a man who worked in the machine shop, he helped me drill holes in the rods among various other things.

  • 6. Water Flow Testing
    • Testing to see if the radiator slowed down the rate of water flow..
      • I helped design and build a rig to test how fast the water flowed through the radiator from different pressures/heights.

  • 7. Parabolic Concentrator
    • The Solar panels needed testing under sunlight to show their efficiency and durability
      • I helped to build a parabolic reflector and support to test how well the solar cells would do under accelerated testing.

  • 8. Solar tracker + Weather dome
    • Solar trackers are needed to track the sun.
      • The solar tracker allows the concentrator unit to get maximum efficiency by pointing it at the sun
    • A weather dome is needed to make the solar tracker more rugged.
      • The weather dome that I created was a mayonnaise jar and was fairly simple

    • How to use a power drill
      • I used a power drill to construct the rig that was built to test the solar panels
    • How to use a Lathe and a Milling machine.
      • To cut and drill holes in the steel pipes used to create the frame with supervision.
    • How to use CAD
      • To design and get dimensions for the various structures that I helped to build.
