Using GIMP to create a social media image banner.

This was a personal project to develop my Photoshop skills by using the free software called GIMP.

I needed to be able to capture an object from an image, remove all the background from the image, re-position the objects around in the photo/image that I wanted and then merge all the layers together to create a new image.

  • 1. Using GIMP to Photoshop • Goal – Using Photoshop techniques to create a social media image banner • Selecting Images • Repositioning the images to fit social media sites
  • 2. Selected this as my main banner background I liked the banner background as it gave me a 3D feel when I looked at it.
  • 3. I wanted to add this image of the world to the banner background as it was to plain. Chose this world image
  • 4. The image of the background and the world was too boring so I decided to add an X Wing fighter to make it more interesting. Also added an X Wing fighter
  • 5. I had to reposition the X Wing fighter and the planet . I checked my social media profiles using a laptop and smartphone to see what it looked like on the different screen sizes and adjusted accordingly. This image didn’t work for my social media banner
  • 6. The final product
