    • BERNARDO O’HIGGINS WAS BORNOUT OF WEDLOCK ON AUGGUST 20,1778. HE GREW UP WITH HIS MOTHERAND NEVER WAS ABLE TO KNOW HISFATHER.O’ HIGGINS MET HIS FATHERONLY ONE TIME BUT HAD NO IDEAWHO HE WAS. AS A YOUNG BOYHIGGINS MOVED TO ENGLAND WITHHIS MOTHER, BUT O’HIGGINS FATHERSENT HIM MONEY TO LIVE AND ALSOHAVE THE OPPROTUNITY TO BETUTORED BY THE RENOWNEDVENEZUELAN REVOLUTIONARYFRANCISCO de MIRANDA.     • CHILE WAS IN A FIGHT TO GAININDEPENDENCE FOR THEIR COUNTRY.O’HIGGINS REALIZED THE STRONGCONTROVERSITY AND A POSSIBLE WARSTARTING HE IMMEDIATELY STEPPED UP TOTHE PLATE. HE RALLIED UP TWO CAVALRYREGIMENT AND ALSO MANY SOLDIERS.ALL OF THE SOLDEIRS WERE FROM THEFAMILIES THAT WORKED ON O’HIGGINSLAND. JUAN MARTINEZ de ROZAS WAS THEPRESIDENT OF CHILE AND O’HIGGINS WASA SUPPORTER OF ROZAS. BUT ROZAS WASCAUGHT FOR SENDING MONEY ANDVALUABLE SOLDIERS TO ARGENTINA TO HELPTHEM FIGHT FOR THEIR INDEPENDENCE. ROZASEVENTUALLY STEPPED DOWN AND A SMALLGROUP OF RULERS TOOK OVER CHILE. LIKE A COWARDCARRERA ESCAPED THE BATTLE FIELD,O’HIGGINS DID NOT. O’HIGGINS STAYED AND FOUGHT EVEN WITH A GUN SHOTIN HIS LEG. GIVEN THE OBVIOUS OFBEING OUT NUMBERED, O’HIGGINS ANDHIS ARMY BRUTALLY LOST AGAINST THESPANISH ROYALIST. O’HIGGINS NEW HEDID ALL THAT HE COULD DO FOR CHILE. Battle of Rancagua
