Before departing for Poland and France, students and staff convened at the Toronto Holocaust Centre for a day of sensitivity training and team building activities on 30 June 2009.
On that day, they also toured the museum and learned about the life story of a Holocaust survivor.
At the end of the day, each participant was presented with a letter written by an individual who had survived the Holocaust. The letters were to be opened at the end of the tour at Auschwitz.
On 14 August 2009, the feast of St. Maximilian Kolbe, students and staff were introduced to the authors of their letters.
