Presentation Slide Design for the Non-Designer: The New Rules of Presentations What this session is about This training session is a continuation of Lesson 1: Presentation Slide Design for the Non-designer. In our last session I taught you the three new rules of presentations that are changing the way smart businesspeople and educators use powerpoint. Do we remember what the three rules are? (Design Right-brained slides, Tell Stories, Use Pictures) Today we’re going to learn some visual literacy skills that typically aren’t taught in schools or business training. Our modern world has made designers of us all as our job’s require us to pull together presentations and documents. Objective Our objective for this session is for you to learn and be able to apply four foundational principles of graphic design when creating PowerPoint slides. By the time we’re done you will also be able to locate and edit appropriately sized images for use in PowerPoint. Importance You will not automatically become a brilliant designer, but your work will look more professional, organized, unified, and interesting. Well-designed slides communicate your message better and are more engaging for your audience. How the training will unfold First, I have some questions to find out what you already know about graphic design and using digital images. Then I will show you some great resources for finding digital images, and you will have a chance to use some of the basic editing tools in PowerPoint to create an image-based slide. I will present 4 essential graphic design principles you should be using in your PowerPoint slides, including examples of each. You will have a chance to practice using each of these principles to re-design a title slide in PowerPoint. In order to complete the practice slides, everyone will need to have PowerPoint open on their desktop and access to the Internet. Does everybody have PowerPoint ready to go? Please ask questions along the way if you have them.
