Adnams is a well respected company on the Suffolk Coast. It's becoming equally famous for green credentials as its quality ales. Going green extends throughout all its business operations and here's what there two hotels in Southwold are doing to reduce their environmental impact.

  • At staff away day early 2007 staff brainstormed ideas to save energy and generally go green for each department and presented to group. Following this staff volunteered to join green team. Regular monthly meetings held – going through GTBS criteria to assist.
  • Motivation – latest award will hopefully encourage more staff to get involved and keep those who are motivated as have recognition for wrok Ideas – new link on website directing suggestions, comments and questions to green team leader GTBS members – The Blyth – local business Silver – we are still doing all that we were when bronze was achieved and more so hopefully the silver is within reach!

Green Team <ul><li>Started at the end of 2006 </li></ul><ul><li>Group made up of of staff from different departments of the hotels </li></ul><ul><li>Meetings held to brainstorm ideas and work towards GTBS criteria </li></ul><ul><li>Initial aim to achieve a Green Tourism Business Scheme Bronze Award by the end of 2007 </li></ul>

What We’ve Done…Staff Induction/Training & Awareness: Introducing to Environmental Policies & Procedures Green Team Updates via Monthly Hotel Holler Newsletter Green Team meetings : staff from different departments getting together to set targets and brainstorm ideas Competitive Edge : people to want to work for us belief in the brand and values and staff/environmental welfare Feel good factor : publicity motivation awards Measuring the benefit : Carbon Combat – incentives and prizes

Environment and Social Responsibility: demonstrating commitment to the local community and environment for the long-term Financial: Energy - 2008 year on year 10% reduction in energy spend 2009 so far maintained (no increase despite fuel price increase) Local Food sourcing: supporting local economy utilising high quality seasonal ingredients Marketing/Accolades: Green Tourism Business Scheme Tourism in Suffolk Awards EADT Business Award Consumer: attract responsible consumer seeking quality experiences
