One of the struggles for an independent filmmaker is to find an audience to promote his work because traditional marketing can be expensive and difficult.

The objective is to organize a marketing campaign in youtube using collaboration by inviting users with an account to vote up another user's comments on a chosen video in youtube in order to push the comment to be viewed as one of the ''Top Comments'' without offending the video creator.

• A Brief Summary One of the struggles for an independent filmmaker is to find an audience to promote his work because traditional marketing can be expensive and difficult. The objective is to organize a marketing campaign in youtube using collaboration by inviting users with an account to vote up another user's comments on a chosen video in youtube in order to push the comment to be viewed as one of the ''Top Comments'' without offending the video creator. << Click to jump to Table of Contents
• What We Will Need 1.) A commitment to help others. 2.) Register to our Facebook Group 3.) Your own youtube account. 4.) A youtube video with a lot of views, related to your project. 5.) An empowering comment that empowers the video creator. << Click to jump to Table of Contents
• A Commitment to Help Others In order for this marketing effort to succeed, we will need each other's help. Fortunately its not money we need to turn the wheels to our machine but time, at least an hour to find and press the vote up button on our youtube comments. So simply put in return for voting up other user's comments, they'll vote up your comments too. Scatch my back and i'll scratch yours. Anyway, we usually spend alot of leisure time watching youtube vids anyway, why not spend some of that time marketing to achieve success in our passion for filmmaking? You could even learn some interesting tips on this process from the creative ways users apply this method. << Click to jump to Table of Contents
• Register to our Facebook Group This is where news, updates and other information regarding whats happening in the site and our marketing campaign. If you have any of the following: 1.) Suggestions 2.) Questions 3.) Need some assistance to your project. 4.) Want to advertise your services. 5.) Declare to the community your new cool project. Feel free to post in the message wall! << Click to jump to Table of Contents
• Your Own Youtube Account Since the primary tool for this marketing effort is with youtube, its just imperative that you have your own youtube account. Preferably, your account should contain: 1.) A video about your film. 2.) Your Facebook and Personal Website So that viewers who will see your channel will know how to find you again later and subscribe. << Click to jump to Table of Contents
• A Youtube Video with a Lot of Views Basing from the project you now have. Think of a phrase that best describe it. Lets say that you are made a documentary about frog species, I have come up of these words: poisonous frogs stone frogs frog documentary cute frogs how to cook frogs Now that you have a list, its time to use a tool for figuring out what people actually watch in youtube about frogs. << Click to jump to Table of Contents
• Its nothing more than the: Youtube Search Box! This time I used a simple word (frog) a nd clicked the search button. << Click to jump to Table of Contents
• Immediately you will find an interesting list of videos related to the word ''frog''. If you look on the upper left portion of your screen you will see a selection '' Filter & Explore '' and you should see the following appear next: Under '' Relevance '' you can already see alot of qualified videos. This time lets try to select '' View Count '' << Click to jump to Table of Contents
• You could see alot of videos with millions of views. You can choose one of them that you feel is relevant to your project. The big question is ''Which one?'' Lets dig further and try out something I found interesting a while ago under the filter ''Relevance''. << Click to jump to Table of Contents
• With more than 3 Million views, this simple video animation of frogs singing proves its value. 1.) Top comments shows the number of votes it takes to be included here. 12 votes is the highest so with the help of our friends its going to be easy to ease your comment to this position. 2.) The comments section shows that it has consistent viewers each day which means your comment can be easily spotted by collaborators. Does this mean this is the perfect vid for a frog documentary? Maybe. << Click to jump to Table of Contents
• On this sample, the video has a ''cute value'' because it includes a cat and a small frog that squeals. We all know that ''cute'' generates alot of views and there are consistent comments to add to it. The top comments highest is 53, next is 44 votes so its going to be tough to beat it, depending on the number of our collaborators that will be online to help out. Even if we beat it, we are unsure if the 'cute lovers' who would see your comment are the type which is interested with a documentary about frogs. << Click to jump to Table of Contents
• This perhaps is more qualified to promote our documentary about frogs. The video is short and shows one of the species of poison frogs. I have a gut feeling that the 100,000+ people who watched this might have got their attention somewhere about these type of frogs, sparked their interest and have been browsing in youtube more about them. The comments are consistent spanning days and weeks in between. The top comment is 72 votes which is hard to beat. But the next one is just only 5 votes which where we will be aiming for. << Click to jump to Table of Contents
• These are just basic guidelines on choosing the video. Actually there are no universal laws that settles everything. Your film might even get the exposure it needs from genres you couldn't have imagined. All you need to do is to trust your gut and save the youtube addresses of the videos on notepad (for easy copy pasting later) which you feel attracts the type of audience that will appreciate your film . << Click to jump to Table of Contents
• An Empowering Comment Once you have a video you want to market on, we will need to compose the right comment that will invite the viewers to visit your channel and empower the video creator. I'll say it again: We need to empower the video creator because of the simple fact that the video is his/her creation. That also means that the comment shouldn't be a meaningless spam comment. A spam comment is a comment that hurts for it takes the enthusiasm out of video creator and its viewers due to its selfish nature. An empowering comment gives appreciation to the video creator and generates interest to the viewers. << Click to jump to Table of Contents
• Samples of spam comments Hey guys I just made a documentary about frogs. Check out my channel, subscribe and I will sub back. Thanks! Cool video! Want to see a documentary about frogs? Visit www(dot)FrogDocumentaryFilms(dot)com or visit (insert affiliate link here) and watch my video. As you can see it appears like it is ''robbing'' the video creator of audiences and is even assuming the reader is a marketer too. If you read this type of comment in your own channel, doesn't this make you feel... used? Avoid this comment at all cost. Since we are creative individuals, lets apply it also to the way we craft our comments. << Click to jump to Table of Contents
• Sample of Empowering Comment Yikes! I never dreamed of holding this type of frog. You must be very brave. I remember my roomate's dog ate this thing... and you know what happened. In my research, some natives use that frog to poison their blow darts. Fortunately not all frogs are harmful. I actually made a documentary about these frog species. Search my film in Youtube: "Frog Documentary" or simply click my name to check my youtube channel and see it in my play list. Thanks for the pleasure of letting us see this frog! As you can see, the comment sounds like you are talking to the creator personally. << Click to jump to Table of Contents

• For courtesy sake, it might be necessary for all collaborators to follow this specific format so that we will be able to identify top comments that are already 'taken' by one of ours and avoid any conflict of interest. So far, the way your comments are written is at your own discretion. << Click to jump to Table of Contents

• FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Q. Is this process violates Youtube's TOS? A : No. I reviewed the TOS and according to it, anything automated that is quicker than humanly possible is the one that is not allowed. Q : I dont like the comment of one of the collaborators. Am I required to vote it up regardless? A : You may or may not vote up a comment. Its your decision. Q : I made a comment yesterday, now its gone! A : Maybe it got lost in the pile of comments or the owner didn't like it and deleted it. There's nothing we can do about it. Find another video or make a new comment. << Click to jump to Table of Contents
• Q. I have a collection of 100+ youtube videos I want to market on, should I add all of them to the spreadsheet? A : I suggest adding one or two videos only on each scheduled date . Why? Its because Youtube has spam protection programs running 24/7 looking for suspicious activity. I dont know what triggers it but it will be wise not to be greedy or you might get your account banned . Q : I live on a different time zone, can I organize my own marketing group? A : Sure. Create and post your own spreadsheets in the collaboration site. Q : Why do we have to schedule our collaboration? A : So that we can find our marketing comments easily or it might get lost on the flood of comments that will follow later. << Click to jump to Table of Contents
