Requirements In order to install the USB Gateway you will need the following: USB Gateway USB cable RJ11 cable Telephone (regular telephone, cordless phone, DECT phone, …) Telephone service (for conf call, 3 way calling and Diverting features) Broadband internet service is recommended PC with the following minimum specifications: Pentium 400MHz or equivalent Windows 2000 or XP Available USB port (1.0, 1.1 or 2.0) Skype™ version 1.1.079 or higher (www.skype.com) must be installed 128MB RAM 10MB available hard disk space CD-ROM drive to install USB VoIP Gateway Program from the supplied CD-ROM Note that the USB Gateway must be connected directly to the PC USB port or to an AC Powered USB hub. It CANNOT be installed on a bus powered USB hub.
  • 6. Installation The following instructions will guide you to through the process of installing the USB VoIP Gateway. The installation procedure is to: 1. Install Skype™ (step 1 below) 2. Start the USB Gateway installation (step 2 below) 3. Plug in the USB Gateway WHEN INSTRUCTED TO DO SO (step 2 below) 4. Verify the installation is OK (step 3 below) 5. Connect a telephone handset to the USB Gateway (step 4 below) 6. Connect the USB Gateway to the wall jack (step 5 below). Note that this is optional and only required for the diverting and conferencing features. The detailed instructions follow: STEP 1: If Skype™ is not already installed on your computer, visit http://www.skype.com and follow the instructions there to install Skype™. Verify that Skype™ is working before installing the USB Gateway. STEP 2: Insert the supplied CD-ROM into your PC CD-ROM drive. The installation should start automatically. If not, open the installation folder on the CD-ROM and double click on the setup.exe program as shown below. You will see the following popup, asking you for the language to guide you for installation. Following dialog will appear to ask you for the installation. Press “Next” button to use the default path.
  • 7. Wait until installation complete, and you will see the following dialog. Press Finish to complete the setup. The USB Gateway Program should be running by now. Connect the USB cable to the USB Gateway’s “USB” port as shown below:
  • 8. The other end of the USB cable must be connected to a USB port on your computer as shown below, or to an AC Powered USB hub. The USB Gateway MUST not be connected to a bus powered USB hub. STEP 3: You would then see following screen if your Skype is already running. If not, start your Skype program. Refer to STEP 1 for how to download the Skype program. Choose the first option “Allow this program to use Skype”, and press OK. Following Dashboard screen should appear, showing Skype is connected.

STEP 4: Connect a standard telephone handset (either corded or cordless) to the USB Gateway’s port “PHONE” using a telephone cable as shown below STEP 5: Connect a telephone cable between the USB Gateway’s port “PSTN” and a wall jack as shown below. Note that this is only required for making regular phone calls or for Diverting Skype calls to your mobile (or other off-site) phone or for toll bypass applications. USB Gateway States When the USB Gateway is installed and the software is installed properly, then you will see
  • 10. a yellow phone in the system tray as shown below. If the USB Gateway is not properly installed, you’ll see a gray phone with a cross on it. Please check if the USB Gateway is properly connected to the PC. When the USB Gateway program is not running, there is no phone in the system tray. USB Gateway LED The USB Gateway has 3 LED as illustrated below. Note that the colors or number of LEDs on your USB Gateway may be different. PSTN LED VoIP LED Power LED Power LED: When the USB Gateway is installed, then the power LED will be lit red indicating the USB Gateway is receiving power. VoIP LED: When the USB Gateway is switched to VoIP(Skype) network, it will be lit. When there a VoIP (Skype) call, the light will be blinking. PSTN LED: When the USB Gateway is switched to PSTN (landline) network, it will be lit. When there a PSTN call, the light will be blinking. Both VoIP and PSTN LED will be lit when the USB Gateway is diverting call, or when the 3-way conferencing is enabled.
  • 11. Making and Receiving Calls You can continue to use the telephone handset connected to the USB Gateway to make and receive standard telephone calls as you used without any change. To make a standard phone call, just pick up the handset and dial as you normally would. To answer (receive) a standard phone call, just pick up the handset when the phone rings. When you receive an incoming Skype™ call, the handset connected to the USB Gateway will ring. To answer the call, just pick up the handset and speak as you normally would. To end the call, simply hang up the handset as you normally would. If you have SkypeOut™, you can use the USB Gateway connected handset to make SkypeOut™ calls by picking up the handset, pressing *#*, to indicate to the USB Gateway that this is not a standard call but a Skype call, dialing as per the SkypeOut™ recommended dialing sequence, 00 + country code + telephone number (e.g. 001 617 555 1212) and pressing two pound keys (##). In order to make a call to a Skype™ contact, you will need to use the Skype™ program to assign a speed dial (as described in the next section) to each person you would like to call from the USB Gateway connected handset. Then simply pick up the handset, press *#*, to indicate to the USB Gateway that this is not a standard call but a Skype call, you will hear a new dial-tone, press the speed dial number (e.g. 22) and then press two pound keys (##). Setting Skype Speed Dial This section describes how to setup speed dials in Skype™. This is required in order to use a USB Gateway connected handset to dial to a Skype™ contact. It is not required for making SkypeOut™ calls using a USB Gateway connected handset. Step 1: Right click on the desired contact as shown below and select Assign Speed-Dial:
  • 12. Step 2: Enter the desired speed dial number (e.g. 10) as shown below and press the OK button. Step 3: You will now see an indication that the Skype™ contact has a speed dial associated with them. 3 way Conference Call Between VoIP and Regular Calls While on a regular phone call, you may press #7 to enable 3-way Conference. Then dial the phone number you would like to invite to the conference call.
  • 13. Diverting Calls The USB Gateway can be configured to Divert incoming Skype™ calls to another telephone number, such as your mobile phone. It can also Divert incoming telephone calls to a Skype™ or SkypeOut™ call. Right click on the USB Gateway Program (yellow telephone in the Windows System Tray) and select configure as shown below. You will see the USB Gateway configuration screen as shown below.

Divert incoming VoIP/Skype™ call to a telephone (e.g. your mobile phone) In order to divert incoming Skype™ calls to a telephone number such as your mobile phone, under “Divert VoIP to PSTN”, click option “Divert to Preset Number”, enter phone number to the textbox next to it. For example, you would like to Divert VoIP to your mobile phone 98354409, it would be set as following: Note: If you are on a PBX, you may need to press a digit to get an outside line (i.e. 9). In this case you would enter 998354409) Divert incoming regular landline call to VoIP/Skype™ In order to Divert incoming regular calls to a VoIP call, such as a Skype account or SkypeOut™, enter speed dial number (e.g. 10) associated with the Skype User without the * key (as shown above) or enter the SkypeOut™ number (e.g. 0013850013653). Under “Divert VoIP to PSTN”, click option “Divert to Preset Number”, enter phone number to the textbox next to it. Divert incoming VoIP/Skype™ call to Personal Call Center You may divert the VoIP call to the Personal Call Center, which you can call any phone number you want. In order to divert incoming Skype™ calls to a telephone number such as your mobile phone, under “Divert VoIP to PSTN”, click option “Divert to Call Center”. Divert incoming regular landline call to Personal Call Center You may divert the VoIP call to the Personal Call Center, which you can then call any phone number or leave a voice message. In order to divert incoming Skype™ calls to a telephone number such as your mobile phone, 1. Under “Divert PSTN to VoIP”, click option “Divert to Call Center”. 2. The Call Center is protected by a 4-digit passwords, the default password is “1234”. You have to reconfigure your own password.
  • 15. Answering Machine/Voice Message Support How to enable Voice Message Support Voice message can be left when people calling from PSTN. In order to enable it: 1. Under “Divert PSTN to VoIP”, click option “Divert to Call Center”. 2. Click the check box “Voice Message Support” 3. Press “Edit Welcome Message” if you wan to leave your own welcome message when you’re not ready to answer the phone. How to leave Voice Message Support 1. Call the USB Gateway through regular landline 2. Wait 10 seconds, till the USB Gateway enter the answering machine mode 3. You will hear the welcome message from the Gateway 4. Press “0#” , and you can then start leaving a voice message. How to Playback the Voice Message 1. Under the main dialog screen. Click the button “Voice Mail” 2. You can then see a list of Voice Message left by your friends. Click the message, and click the “Play” Button. You can delete the message by pressing the “Delete” button. Record How to Enable the Auto-Recording 1. Under Option Dialog 2. Check the box “Enable Auto-Recording” How to Playback the Recorded Conversation 1. Under the main dashboard screen 2. Press the “Record” Button 3. Select the conversation you would like to play back, then press “Play” to play it back.
