  • Your Incredible Brain
  • How does the brain work?
  • A hundred years ago, the only way scientists could examine the human brain was with a corpse.
  •  Today, scientists can look inside a living brain and watch it work.
  • What’s going on in there?
  • What’s going on in there?  When you think, connections form in your brain
  • The connections in your brain are like pathways
  • Pathways in the brain = learning
  • Your brain changes as you learn + = For example, if a man drives a taxi for many years
  • TAXI + = Taxi driver brain!! After a few years, the “finding your way around” part of his brain will be much bigger than it was before!!
  • Brains change as you use them! Watch this video to see how much a brain can change: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSu9HGnlMV0 Pause to discuss.
  • Habits shape your brain So choose your mental habits
  • Pathways in the brain = learning
  • Or ‘unlearn’ something. Let the path grow over…
  • Choose your habits or change your habits
  • Choose your habits Change your brain!
  • You can break new ground and create CHANGE! Repeat, repeat, repeat = new pathways
  • Break negative habits Or add some helpful ones
