    1. The 3 Prongs of the SEO Fork Caroline Melberg Small Business Mavericks
    2. The 3 Prongs of the SEO Fork
      • Lots of varying opinions about SEO out there
      • Everyone can agree that there are 3 components your site MUST have to rank well
          • Content – Keywords!
          • Titles and Meta Tags
          • Inbound Links
      • Examples of each

    3. Content - Keywords
      • The content of your site is critical … it’s been said that Content is King.
      • If that’s true, then Keywords are Queen.
      • You must have sufficient content on your web pages to include the keywords you wish to rank for in a natural fashion.
      • You must include the keywords you wish to rank for on separate pages – each product or idea gets it’s own page. The Search Engines rank Web PAGES not Web SITES.

    4. The Code of Your Site
      • Not visible to your visitors, but the search engines can see it. Remember, SEO is marketing to the search engines.
      • Title Tags – most important
      • Meta Keyword Tag and Meta Description Tag
      • Alternate Text Tag for Images
      • View Page Source to See These

    5. Inbound Links
      • Along with on-page factors such as content, keywords and the code of your site, the search engines consider inbound links to your site as an equally important element in determining how you will rank.
      • The search engine’s goal is relevance. Inbound links are like virtual word of mouth from trusted sources.
      • How to tell how many links you have – go to: https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com

    6. Inbound Links
      • How to find sites who would be good link partners for you:
        • Search online and find other sites who are listed for your keywords, but are in different parts of the country.
        • Use SpyFu.com to find other sites based on your keywords.
        • Visit websites, blogs and forums in your industry and find out who links to whom
        • Use Yahoo Site Explorer to find out who links to your competitors
          • Google always understates the number of links, Yahoo is a truer representation of the quantity of links a site has.
          • Use this to find out who links to your site and what anchor text they are using.
        • Visit blogs and forums in your industry, register and comment on them with links to your site.
        • Write articles about your industry and press releases about your business and submit them to directories online.

    7. Conclusion
      • The Three Factors you MUST pay attention to for your site to rank organically:
        • Content and Keywords
        • Code Factors – Title tags, Meta, Alt tags
        • Inbound Links
      • Taking these steps for your website will put your site in great shape to rank well with the search engines.
