  • Reference Manager is an example of such a tool that can help with citing your sources correctly. Reference Manager is a software tool used for storing and managing references and creating bibliographies. There are over 30 pre-defined reference types to choose from including journals, books, conference proceedings, patents, slides, and theses. It eliminates the need for recording references on index cards, in notebooks etc.Bibliographies can be generated in a variety of styles. The UWI Mona Library offers students access to Reference Manager.
  • After adding all the references for your final Reference List, click on Bibliography-Generate from Reference List.
  • Click on the ellipsis (…) beside the Output Style box, select your citation style from the list in the dialogue box and click, choose your font style and size and click on OK. Ensure that none of the items from Optional Fields are selected or else they will be displayed in your reference list.
  • Click the “Bibliography” tab and the “Page” tab to do any additional formatting that is required, e.g. the APA style requires hanging indentation for its list of references. I therefore have to change the indentation settings in the “Bibliography” tab so that my list will have the correct format. Click “OK” to save your new format.
  • When the Save As dialogue box comes up, select the folder on your computer in which you’d like to store your Reference List and click on Save. You can then upload your new Reference List from the folder where you saved it.
  • Here’s an example of a Reference List generated by Reference Manager.
