  • It is important that an effective trainer possesses competencies in two areas:
  • Adult Learning Theories

    An effective trainer:
    Has knowledge of and also remains up-to-date with learning theories, such as constructivism, andragogy, multiple intelligences, social learning theory, etc.
    Incorporates principles of adult learning theories to the practice of instructional design
  • Instructional Design Models

    An effective trainer:
    Has knowledge of various ID models, such as ADDIE, Dick & Carey, rapid prototyping, spiral model, etc.
    Incorporates principles of ID models to the practice of instructional design
  • Needs Assessment

    An effective trainer:
    Determines training problem
    Identifies target population characteristics
    Defines the learning intervention to solve the problem
  • Curriculum Design

    An effective trainer:
    Uses a variety of techniques to determine instructional content of curriculum or program

    An effective trainer:
    Selects, modifies, and/or creates appropriate instructional material for a given project

    Analyzes the characteristics and benefits associated with existing and emerging technologies

    An effective trainer:
    Proactively identifies appropriate evaluation techniques, e.g. usability testing, formative evaluation, etc. and applies them
