History of animation

  1. 1. Animation Rebecca Farmer Henry Gorick ` Nathan Massey Bonnie Scott Sian Wetherhill
  2. 2. Process Animation is the process of creating the continuous motion and shape change illusion by means of rapid display of a sequence of static images that minimally differ from each other. Animation (noun) What is Animation??
  3. 3. Process How do we make an Animation? In the past, devices such as Zoopraxinoscopes, Zoetropes, Kinectoscopes and other variations were used to create moving pictures. Nowadays it is easier with modern technology to create moving images; and there are many new and more dynamic devices and tools.
  4. 4. Techniques/Types Differing types of Animation 2D Animation • Hand drawn • Cutouts • Rotoscoping • Flip book 2D Computer Assisted Animation • Flash • Colouring and Layering • Drawing with tablet
  5. 5. Techniques/Types Differing types of Animation 3D Animation • 3D animation software • Stereoscoping • CGI cut out • Motion capture • Morphing Stop Motion • Claymation • Puppet animation • Pixilation
  6. 6. Tools What kind of items can be used to make Animation? Traditional • Pencil and paper • Light box • Line testers • Multi plane camera (First used in Walt Disney’s ‘Pinocchio’ [1940]) 2D Computer programs • Flash • Photoshop • Illustrator Stop Motion • Woodwork • Model Making • Cameras 3D Computer programs • Maya • Bespoke programs (e.g Pixar's Renderman)
  7. 7. Context What can Animation be used for? Animation can be used in many different ways, such as: In Movies In Games In Advertisements In Short Films
  8. 8. Context What can Animation be used for? Animation can also be used for educational purposes and can be most effective in the process of teaching.
  9. 9. Context What can Animation be used for? Scientific Research Not only can it be used to show moving simulations, animations can also, with high powered computers, be used to create these processes and display them for viewers allowing for more in-depth analysis.
  10. 10. Context What can Animation be used for? Animation is also largely used for entertainment purposes, and is developed diversely enough for people of all ages and all tastes. Animated TV shows such as: Family Guy, The Simpsons, South Park, and Adventure Time are all examples of how popular animated shows can become and all are noted for the ability to do things that would be impossible or extremely expensive for a filmed TV show.
