    • TEACHING PRONUNCIATION USING TECHNOLOGY INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY ULACIT 2010
    • WHY TEACH PRONUNCIATION?
      • • It improves students’ pronunciation and intonation.
      • • It helps students to understand the emotions people want to transmit according to their tone of voice.
      • It helps students transmit their own emotions when speaking.
    • WHY TEACH PRONUNCIATION?
      • It helps students to become more fluent and to speak more natural.
      • • It provides students with new vocabulary.
      • • It makes students think in the target language.
      • • Students learn about different accents in the target language.
    • LESSON PLAN
      • There are many aspects of teaching pronunciation.
      • The following Lesson Plan is focused on four aspects that we consider important: sounds and stress, homophones, tongue twisters, and intonation.
      • The activities are examples of how we can use technology in the classroom to teach our students pronunciation in a fun way!
    • 1. ACTIVITY: SOUND, STRESS, INTONATION !
      • Students will be reading two sentences each from the paragraphs until finish it. Recognizing the pronunciation similarity in words.
      • Let’s do an online practice on English Sound, stress, intonation

    • 2. ACTIVITY: HOMOPHONES!
      • The teacher will dictate words to you.
      • Write them down, and then check with a partner.
      • Did you write the words in the same way?
      • Some words in English are pronounced exactly the same, but differ in Spelling.
    • HOMOPHONES
      • Let’s do an activity on homophones!
      • You will have to complete an online crossword with homophones.
      • Which group can do it fastest?

    • 3. ACTIVITY: TONGUE TWISTERS!
      • Tongue Twisters can be a good pronunciation practice!
      • How fast can you say this tongue twister without making a mistake?
    • TONGUE TWISTERS!
      • In groups, listen to different tongue twisters and practice saying them!

    • 4. ACTIVITY: INTONATION!
      • When we communicate, we use words, body language, and intonation.
      • What do you think is most important?
      • The teacher will say the same sentence with different intonation.
      • How does the meaning of the sentence change?
      • Why is it so important to use intonation?
    • INTONATION!
      • Listen to the speakers and then choose the answer that best describes the feeling in the recording.
      • The teacher will assign two students who write the conversation down, and later read it to the class.

      • Remember that that if intonation is lacking, the speaker might seem uninterested and could be considered rude by native speakers.
    • CONCLUSION
      • It is important to teach pronunciation so we can be understood by native or second language speakers, and we are able to understand them.
      • Using technology is an excellent way to teach pronunciation because there is a great variety of online exercises on the different aspects of pronunciation, and our students can become familiar with different accents being exposed to them on the internet.
      • It makes learners more secure in their speaking, and reduces the fear of not understanding different accents.
      • Teaching pronunciation using online exercises can be a very successful and fun way to improve your students’ pronunciation!
