  • “To The Praise Of The Glory Of His Grace” June 1, 2014 Calvary Chapel Corvallis, OR
  • “asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you wisdom, and to see clearly and really understand who Christ is and all that He has done for you” (Ephesians 1:17, Living Bible) Jesus asked “who do men say that I am?”
  • “The Heavens Declare The Glory Of God” ”For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, His eternal (infinite) power and Godhead, ..." (Romans 1:20) View slide
  • Our Place In The “Milky Way” Galaxy Is Unique Flying at 540,000 mph ~ 200,000,000,000 Suns 100,000 light year across • We are strategically located away from the center & between the spiral arms away from high concentration of stars • We have the “best view” to observe the Universe Black Hole in center with the mass of millions of Suns View slide
  • Our Closest Galactic Neighbor Andromeda (2.5 Million Light Years) Our Galaxy Is Flying at 1,300,000 mph
  • Our Galaxy Is One Of ~ 100 Billion Galaxies As Far As We Can See The Universe Is ~ 14 Billion Light Years
  • We Can Only See 5% Of The Universe • 95% of the Universe is invisible (dark mass and dark energy) • We can only see the effects of dark mass and dark energy Visible Universe (5%) (Stars, galaxies, cosmic dust, planets, etc) Dark Matter (27%) Dark Energy (68%)
  • Filaments (~1,000,000 galaxies)Super Clusters (~10,000 galaxies per dot of light) Galaxies Form Clusters And Filaments
  • There Are More Stars In The Universe Than Grains Of Sand On All The Sea Shores You are here! • This is only a portion of the visible Universe • The Bible correctly predicted the size of the Universe: • “As the host of heaven cannot be numbered, neither the sand of the sea measured” (Jer. 33:22)
  • God Is Infinitely Greater Than Our Universe • What caused the Universe to form? • Scientists don’t understand the makeup of the Universe nor what caused the Universe to appear • The Bible declares that God created the Universe • “By the word of the LORD were the heavens made, and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth” (Psalm 33:6) • “the worlds were framed by the word of God” (Hebrews 11:3) • How was the Universe formed? • Scientists agree that the Universe was formed from “nothing” • The Bible states “the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible” • God says - “Is there anything too hard for Me”? (Jeremiah 32:27) • The energy required to form the Universe (visible mass, dark mass, dark energy) is truly “infinite
  • God Is Infinitely Greater Than Our Universe • “Behold the heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee..” (1 Kings 8:27) • “Who is like unto the LORD our God, who dwells on high who humbles Himself to behold the things that are in heaven and in the earth?” (Psalm 113:4)
  • How Big Is “Infinite”? Infinite • The Universe & the Atom are indistinguishable from the vantage point of Infinity Our Finite Universe Galaxies 14+ billion light years Universe Sub-Atomic Particles • This is how we should view God.
  • “I and the Father Are One” (John 10:30) Jesus claimed equality with God. This is why the Jews wanted to kill Him “Therefore the Jews sought to kill Him, because He not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God” (John 5:18) Why is this important? Every cult denies the deity of Jesus. By being less than God disqualifies Jesus from being our redeemer. A prophet, or teacher, or an archangel cannot redeem man. The redeemer has to be both God and man Job recognized the dilemma of a redeemer - “Nor is there any mediator between us (God and men) who may lay His hands on us both” ( Job 9:33)
  • Jesus Is The Son Of God With All The Attributes Of God “For unto us a Child is borne, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6) “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel (God with us)” (Isaiah 7:14) "In the beginning was the Word (Jesus), and the Word (Jesus) was with God, and the Word (Jesus) was God." (John 1:1) “Who (Jesus) is the image of the invisible God, ..." (Colossians 1: 15) “But to the Son He (God the Father) says: ‘Your throne, O God (Jesus), is forever and ever…’” (Hebrews 1:8) “Who (Jesus) being the brightness of His (God’s) glory, and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power…” (Hebrews 1:3) "For it pleased the Father that in Him (Jesus) all the fullness should dwell" (Colossians 1:19) “For in Him (Jesus) dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily” (Colossians 2:9) “Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father” (John 14:9)
  • Jesus Created The Universe & All The Angels “You Lord (Jesus), in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands” (Hebrews 1:10) “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God….All things were made through Him (Jesus), and without Him (Jesus) nothing was made that was made” (John 1: 1, 2) “Who is the image of the invisible God, …for by Him (Jesus) were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible, and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers, all things were created by Him (Jesus), and for Him (Jesus), and He (Jesus) is above all things, and by Him (Jesus) all things consist” (Colossians 1: 15-18) “You are worthy O Lord (Jesus) to receive glory and honor, and power; for You (Jesus)have created all things, and for your pleasure they are and were created” (Revelations 4:11)
  • The Glory Of Jesus Christ • “O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was” (John 17:5 ) • What was the glory of Jesus before He became man? – “These things Isaiah said when he saw His (Jesus) glory and spoke of Him (Jesus)” (John 12:41) – “In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on the throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. … and one (seraphim) cried to another and said; ‘Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!...”For my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts”” (Isaiah 6:1-5) • The present glory of Jesus – “As he (Paul) journeyed he came near Damascus, and suddenly a light shone around him from heaven. Then he fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to him, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me (Jesus)?” (Acts 9: 3-4 – "...who(Jesus) is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see; to whom be honor and glory and power everlasting, Amen." (I Timothy 6: 14-16)
  • God’s Knowledge Is Infinite! “Great is our LORD, and of great power; His understanding is infinite” (Psalm 147:5) • Whatever can be known was always known by God – “For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, declaring the end from the beginning. and from ancient times things that are not yet done” Isaiah 46:9- 10 • God knew us individually before we were created – “before I formed thee…, I knew thee”. (Jeremiah 1:5) – “He has chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world…” (Ephesians 1:4) • He knows our thoughts – “The LORD knows the thoughts of man” (Psalm 94:11) – “You understand my thought afar off,… there is not a word on my tongue, but behold, O LORD, You know it altogether” (Psalm 139:2-4) – “But Jesus knowing their thoughts” (Matthew 9:4,Luke 5:22)
  • God’s Love Is Infinite! • “For great is your love, higher than the heavens” (Psalm 108:4) • “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friend” (John 15:13) • Jesus being in the form of God took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men.. Humbled himself, and became obedient even the death of the cross” (Philippians 2:6-8) • “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16) • “I in them, and You in Me that they may be made perfect in one,…and (You) have loved them as You have loved Me” (John 17:23) • “to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge (Ephesians 3:19)
  • God’s Mercy Is Infinite! • “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus” (Romans 3:23-24) • “That He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.” (Romans 3:26) • “For as the heavens are high above the Earth so great is His mercy toward them that fear Him, as far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us” (Psalm 103:11 & 12) • “The mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon those who fear Him” (Psalm 103:17) • “God who is rich in mercy, because of the great love with which He loves us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ” (Ephesians 2:4,5) • “Sacrifice and offering, burnt offerings, and offerings for sin You did not desire, nor had pleasure in them, then He said, ‘Behold I have come to do your will, O God.’ He takes away the first that He may establish the second. By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all” (Heb 10:8-10)
  • God’s Mercy Is Infinite! • “The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in mercy” (Psalm 103:8 • “It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning, great is Thy faithfulness”. (Lamentation 3:22,23) • “Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, … He retaineth not his anger for ever, because He delighteth in mercy”. (Micah 7:18)
  • The Manifold Wisdom Of God • “O LORD, how manifold are thy works! In wisdom hast thou made them all” (Psalm 104:24) • “which from the beginning of the ages has been hidden in God, who created all things through Jesus Christ, to the intent that now the manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the church to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 3:9,10) • The sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow, are “things which angels desire to look into" (I Peter 1:12) • “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28)
  • “When I consider Your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon, and the stars, which You have ordained, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visitest him?” (Psalm 8:3-4) "For He (God) has not put the world to come, in subjection to angels" (Hebrew 2: 5) "You (God) have put all things in subjection under his feet. …But now we do not yet see all things put under him. But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angel, for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honor, that He by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone” (Hebrew 2:8-10) “What Is Man That You Are Mindful Of Him?”
  • “This is now bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh” • “… But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him” (Genesis 3: 20) • “And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam…and He took one of his ribs,… then the rib which the LORD God had taken from man He made into a woman” (Genesis 3:21 & 22) • “For we are members of His (Jesus) body, of His flesh and of His bones” (Ephesians 5: 30) • “This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church” (Ephesians 5: 32)
  • “but now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed… even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ” (Romans 3:22-21) “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23) “There is now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus… (Romans 8:1) “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor heights nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:39) We Are Only Accepted In Christ Jesus
  • “To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who are sanctified in Christ Jesus..” (1 Corinth 1:6) “For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive” (1Corinth 15:31) “Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began” 2 Timothy 1:9) “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation” (2 Corinth 5:17) “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:26) “And raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2:6) We Are Only Accepted In Christ Jesus
  • “For there is one God and one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 2:5) “Jesus saith unto him, ‘I am the way, the truth and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me’” (John 14:6) “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12) Jesus Is The Only Way
  • “The Glory That Will Be Revealed In Us” • “ And the glory which You gave Me, I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one” (John 17: 22) • “who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body…” (Philippians 3:21) • “For whom He foreknew, He also predestinated to be conformed to the image of His Son, … Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called: whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified” (Romans 8:29-30) • “When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory” (Colossians 3:4) (not a place but a state) • “Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is” (I John 3:2) • “The Spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs – heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him that we may also be glorified together” (Romans 8: 15-17)
  • “I will be like the Most High” • Satan wanted to be like us (Isaiah 14: 12-14): • I will ascend into heaven • I will exalt my throne above the stars (angels & principalities) of God • I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation • I will ascend above the heights of the clouds • I will be like the Most High • Jesus gave us what Satan wanted but couldn’t have: • “…made us sit together in the heavenly in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus” (Eph 2:6,7) • “…far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come” (Eph 1:21) • “Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image according to Our likeness’”… (Genesis 1:26)
  • God’s Grace Is Infinite! • Because of our rebellion and sin nature we deserved death and separation from God for eternity • Instead He “blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love, having predestinated us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved” (Ephesians 1:3-6) • God chose the lowest sinful man to make him into His image. This is infinite grace! • “… rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ” (1Peter 1:13) • There is no greater grace. It is truly infinite!
  • • God’s love is infinite. He loves us beyond our understanding • God’s knowledge is infinite. He knows everything about us • God’s mercy is infinite. There is no act of sin that can’t be forgiven • Jesus has paid the price for our sins “It is finished” • There is nothing I can add to His finished work except to receive it and to give thanks to Him • Jesus has brought us into a relationship with God that is superior to the angels • We are sons of God, heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ • There is nothing greater than what God has done through Jesus Christ • “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12) To The Praise Of The Glory Of His Grace
  • “Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!” (II Corinthians 9:15 )
