For their documentary introduction, the students used Sony Vegas Pro instead of iMovie to add effects, finely cut footage, and synchronize audio to video. Sony Vegas allowed them to cut frames to the millisecond, add fades and color/exposure adjustments to fit the dark theme. Text was inserted and given a shiny look using bump mapping. The finished introduction in Sony Vegas showed a more complex timeline than would have been possible in iMovie.

Editing Doc Intro in Sony Vegas
1. Editing the Introduction For this we used Sony Vegas Pro instead of iMovie as we needed to use effects, change levels and cut footage to a finer ratio which iMovie cannot do
2. This is a screenshot of our timeline. It shows the footage and sounds which are in our movie in a kind of storyboard view. From here we have been cutting frames to appropriate lengths and adding transitions such as the fade to white/black. We have been using Sony Vegas Pro as for this part we need to finely cut each frame to the space of milliseconds – this is something that iMovie can’t do.
3. This screenshot shows the adding of effects and change of colour to footage. By changing the colour and exposure of shots we can create a darker look which will fit into our documentary's dark theme. The change of colour can also increase the quality of our footage by sharpening levels and changing contrast levels.
4. This screenshot shows how we have synchronised the audio to our footage, we wanted to change the shot on every beat of the music to engage the audience and create a tense atmosphere for the beginning of our documentary. As you can see we have cut footage into miniature lengths
5. Here we have inserted text to the final part of the introduction, Sony Vegas was very useful for this as we were able to create a shiny look which helps the title stand out. We did this by using the Bump Map tool which can be seen to the left side of the screenshot.
6. This is a screenshot of what our finished introduction looks like in Sony Vegas, as you can see the timeline looks a lot more complex when compared to iMovie.
7. As a filling shot during the Ken Clarke interview we wanted to use a shot which fades between different popular websites, to do this we layered three different shots of websites together. We then changed the opacity levels until they seemed as though they were merging together.
